More Reasons to Drool Over the MDA IV
A couple of days ago, we posted on the upcoming MDA IV. Most of you had plenty to drool about. Now there are more reasons to drool over the device. Paul, from MoDaCo, has a few extra details to share on the device - codenamed "HTC Universal". The more I read about the fantastic specifications of the device, the more I want it. The software package is enough to make you feel all good inside. Read Paul's post to find out more!

It is a pity that I seriously doubt that I would be able to afford one of these - because, apart from that pretty major poblem , I could really see myself using one of these.
I am not really sold on the look of the device, but the feature set is pretty impressive. For me the keyboard is not really a "must have" feature but I can see lots of situations (sitting in a wifi enabled pub on a wet Dublin afternoon for example...) where the keyboard in "laptop" mode might make MSM chatting very comfortable!

I want one too... just looking at the thing makes me want to drop my 6315... (Yes, I know in an earlier post I said I liked it, but this MDA IV makes me want to drop any other PPC). If it comes to Australia first - I'll be dropping a plaintive Email to you

I'm going to pretend this doesn't exist until I hear an announcement from Sprint...
Okay... I guess I'll settle for an unfounded rumor suggesting a CDMA/1xRTT/EVDO model....
any takers?

Yes, NLS, I've seen others and used them, including the MDA and MDA II.
The 6315 has a lot of features that I find truly useful, including t-mobile's sometimes horrible excuse for push email, and the 3 wireless radios. I also like its form factor (Fits nicely in my hand) and the battery life is wonderful.
Given that my 6315 currently holds the record for longest PPC I've owned, I think my comment on liking it was very serious indeed.

I'm officially taking all my pent-up MPx lust and putting it on the MDA IV. I'll pay any price, give any limb ('cept the thumbs) for this to be released for a decent US carrier totally uncrippled. After the MPx experience I'm still expecting some disastrous announcement, like terrible battery life or something.
It looks like HTC is taking all the missing elements of a perfect converged PPC Phone device and rolling them into one. Sweet.

Yes mpx what?? This thing seems to have almost everything I'm looking for. The only thing left for me would be a type II CF slot for my microdrive. I think I'd pay almost any price to only have to carry a single device. (Emphasis on almost).
I am forced to remember the initial excitement I felt over the MPx though, and my 'caution' indicator is going off. The only thing worse then being let down by the final features or price would be for it to be 'all that' but not available in the US.

The MPx fell way, way short... but the huge amount of interest that it generated I think really helped other manufacturers (hopefully HTC is not the only one) take note of the design & features that stirred our imagination. If this device delivers in spades, that would be the ultimate, but I have no doubt that if this does NOT deliver, it won't be long before we see one that does. At the very least, this device seems to hit the mark a lot closer than did the MPx.
Just think... it feels like yesterday when the dominant PPC was the iPaq36xx and everyone's next generation dream device would be one with sleeveless CF support, 16-bit color screen (with no dust), and support for simultaneous button pushes! Now we're talking about BT, WiFi, integrated QUERTY keyboard, CF/SDIO support, Tri-band GSM, GPRS, VGA screen,...

And that's why we have importers. For a more powerful, higher resolution, convertible 3G upgrade to the Blue Angel--with a codename like Universal, no less--I think I'll be talking to Expansys or maybe Dynamism, but I don't think Japan will be getting a phone they can't use. And because it's GSM, most cellular companies will support it just fine (as long as you don't depend on 850 MHz service, of course... stupid USA nonsense :?).
