New Samsung Pocket PC Phone Concept Device
There's an interesting thread over at Mobile Review where someone appears to have posted a set of slides highlighting Samsung's concept mobile phones. The most interesting (in my opinion) is the second slide, detailing a new Pocket PC phone.
The unit is tiny -- measuring 5.5" x 2" x .94" and weighing 4.7oz -- yet manages to pack in WiFi and Bluetooth, a 400MHz processor, 64MB RAM/128MB ROM, and a 2-megapixel camera with flash. Wow. No idea if and when it'll ever come out -- the word "concept" presumably means Samsung themselves only have a few prototypes.

The prototype you picture kind of looks like the i730 which appeared recently on the FCC's site. The only difference is that it has a numeric pad instead of a keyboard. It could be that this was an early prototype for the i730 but they added a keyboard after the success of devices with keyboards. Also this device has a couple extra buttons.

That's so hot! 8O
I shall begin praying immediately that it comes to the market! What's the screen size on that baby...looks pretty small, but for a device that size with those amazing features I could live with a small screen.
Come on, Samsung...don't let me down!

8O Wow. One word... Sweet.
That's 8) 8) 8) 3 times over. Now if only these things would just stop being "concept" devices all would be right with the world again.

YES!!! pclove: Sign me up for one of these sweet hearts! This is one of the first PPC phones that seems to really hit some nice points - the dedicated number pad being one of them. I never really warmed up to the idea of an on-screen keypad, since it seemed like you would forever have a dirty, smudged screen.
I really like the size and form factor of this unit - it looks to be about the "right" size for me - reasonable sized screen to see and get work done on, but yet small enough to slip into a pocket quite comfortably. The recent release or introduction of these smaller units, like the BenQ 50 (?), are looking good. The MPx is starting to look like a non-starter, especially if they can't get it released quickly, and with a reasonable amount of RAM.

Suddenly the Pocket PC Phone Edition world is looking more pocket-able!
It has the potential to sway me away from the Microsoft Smartphone platform. :?
