Default Clio NXT Pre-Selling for $799 USD

http://www.dataevolution.com/pressR...s_release_id=12

"Data Evolution Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Data Evolution Holdings, Inc. (OTC.PK: DTEV), announced today that it will launch a pre-order incentive program for the Clio NXT, the worlds only full-sized, Windows CE, convertible handheld computer, on January 4, 2005. For a limited time, customers may pre-order a Clio NXT for $799.00 instead of the suggested retail price of $999.00. The special price will be applicable until February 4, 2005. The Clio NXT is expected to be available for delivery in April 2005."

What's a Clio NXT you might ask? Here's what it looks like:

And here's what's in it:

"The Clio NXT will continue to utilize the Clios familiar, award-winning SwingTop design and its near full-sized keyboard, but will also offer technologies not available on earlier Clio models, such as built-in 802.11 wireless, a larger screen, a blazing 400MHz Intel XScale processor, industry standard USB connectivity, multiple memory slots, MP3 player, and audio in/out ports. The NXT will run Microsofts Windows CE .NET 4.2 Professional operating system."

I had a first generation Clio, and it was seriously cool device - but suffered from a bad screen and a dog-slow CPU. The Clio NXT looks like it addresses both of these concerns, so this could be a very interesting device for those people who are looking for an instant-on, long-lasting device with a real keyboard for data entry, writing, etc. The down side is that because it's running CE 4.2, you won't have much (if any) third party software to chose from.

According to our friend fishie win ce 4.2 can be made to run a variety of pocketpc software, if you are brave enough to get your hands dirty in the registry.

It certainly opens me up more to using these devices as a web pad for example, if I knew I could install a wide range of software.

And that, unfortunately, id what makes this thing a paperweight. The best hardware in the world is useless unless it has the software to go with it. What type of MS Office apps can run on this device. I don't think, might ne wrong, that MS has done ANYTHING with the versions of Word, Excel, and Access that originally came with the original handheld PC so where does that leave owners of the Clio?
I love the design. I was VERY much tempted to purchase one when the Clio originally came out. Didn't simply because I saw the writing on the wall when it came to MS continuing the handheld PC flavor of CE.

Run, yes. But how the heck would it display? In the upper right corner at 240x320?. 8O

If your software is resolution aware (e.g. works properly with Navidot) it should also display properly on this device.

I know textmaker would work without any problem.

Use terminal server client and you'll be fine with SW.
That said, it is overpriced. Dell laptop is $600.
For $300 this would be an instant hit.

Too pricey for something that offers too little too late.

That boat has sailed.

I have been using my Sigmarion3 for a while now(winCE 4.1) and yes the office suite has come a long way since the days of Handheld PC 2000.
Its far better then it used to be and yes most PPC software works on it with a little modification(or no modification at all).
Most run full screen even with the exception of most games.

4.2 brings with it some minor improvements, he new WMP and IE 6.

No laptop gives you over 10 houres of battery life either so I think that at 799$ it is a good deal for those who can invest a little time tweaking it to their liking.
