muvee Releases AutoProducer 4
muvee AutoProducer is, without a doubt, the most innovative video application I've ever used - it's so completely unique that even the closest competitor can't come close. In short, muvee is software that will automatically edit your video for you, and do a pretty damn good job of it at that. Sounds too good to be true, right? In this case, it actually is that good. And since they have export settings for mobile devices, it's not that off-topic. ;-) Here's a blurb about the new version:
"muvee autoProducer now comes with an all new version - muvee autoProducer 4. The award winning muvee autoProducer is the fastest and easiest way to transform videos and photos into slick productions... in seconds! muvee autoProducer 4 now comes with many new and cool features such as DVD authoring, improved photo-centric effects, improved music effects, support for more video formats and much more!"
This new version looks seriously juiced up - muvee was incredibly innovative when it came out a couple of years ago, but I felt like it was stagnating when new releases added only minor benefits. With version four, it looks like they've addressed my #1 complaint: no WMV support. They now support import of MPEG1, MPEG2, WMV, MPEG4, AVI, and DivX. The app outputs in MPEG1, MPEG2, WMV, MPEG4, AVI, and DivX as well. Photo import has been enhanced as well, with support for BMP, GIF, JPG, TIFF, and RAW. In fact, in looking at the list of features, it looks like they've made it into what I've always wanted: it has DVD burning, real video editing, and real titling features.
muvee 4 is normally $69.96 USD on their site, but they have a three day Christmas promotion where it's 40% off that price, making it only $41.97 USD - not bad at all! They don't have a demo for download yet (it's still 3.5), but 4.0 looks like a winner so far! [Affiliate]
UPDATE: Between last night when I posted on this, and this morning, they took away the 40% discount and replaced it with a 20% discount. :?
UPDATE #2: the 40% discount is back! Quick, grab the software before they take the discount away again.

Well being in the UK and already having Version 3.5 the Upgrade was only $19.99 (plus some tax) which with our great exchange rate is only a smidge over 12 - its 92MB in size for version 4 (thats loads bigger than 3.5) and its coming down really slow - but I'll install it later and let you know what my first thoughts are.
Thanks for the heads up Jason.

Is there any trick to getting the 40% off discount? All I can see is 20% off from the supplied link.

Yes, that's called "MagicMoments" - it's quite cool and has been around since version 3.5. Basically, you watch your video and when it comes to a part you really want to make sure is included, you click the green thumbs up button. That's it. :-)

Hmm...you want to re-mix TV shows? That might make for some funny clips, but that's about it.

They have a product called "magicMoments" listed on their site. Is that included in the main muvee product? Do you know what the separate product is about?
The site lists a bunch of different stylePacks for $14.95 to $19.95 each. Does the base product come with enough tools or do you have to buy some of these to make it really useful?
The 40% deal is listed here. I got it after starting to download the free trial version.
I want to move a bunch of my parents' old VHC home movies over to DVD and thought muvee would help rescue some of the boring parts.

That's actually just bad marketing on their part - version 3.5MX of their product had "MagicMoments" in the graphic, so it makes you think it's a different product - it's not. If you look on the features list for 4.0:
http://www.muvee.com/website/ap4.php
...you'll see that MagicMoments is included.

Nah, you don't need them - the basic software comes with quite a few, and to be honest, most of the new styles are horribly cheesy and not appropriate for most circumstances. ;-)
