Ever Wanted to Live the Life of a Viking?
"A Viking Saga tells you the story about the thrilling adventures of a group of Vikings during the 10th Century. This game lets you trade with foreign cities, discover new land, plunder monasteries and villages and even be the first European to set foot in America."
Max Tillberg has just released "A Viking Saga" for Pocket PCs running the Pocket PC 2000 OS and later. The screenshot reminds me of the old Age of Empires games, so those of you who spent day after day bashing away at Age of Empires may want to have a look at this new release. It's a little strange that this new release still requires the embedded Visual Basic Runtime files in order for it to work. You can download these here. Nevertheless, the best thing about this release is that it's free!

This is actually a turn-based trading type game-- nothing like the venerable Age of Empires.
I hope the speed doesn't suffer too bad from eVB.

Ah - thanks for the heads-up. I just saw "gold", "goods", and whatnot in the screenshot and immediately thought of AOE.

I'm hoping so too. In this instance, eVB has certainly been dug out of the grave, especially in a world where .NET is now widely used.

And a damn good occasion for it to come back too - .NET CF actually ends up being slower than eVB in the end. (although right now I'm using PPL which is simply amazing for creating games.)

Unfortunately, eVB won't work on the next version of Windows Mobile (as stated in the Pocket PC 2003 SDK). The download page for the runtimes has more info on this and links to some resources on migrating to .NET

Yeah. They clearly want to see the use of .NET take over that of eVB so support will only really extend to WM2003 and no further. They want progression, not preservation.
