Default Controlling Your iTunes Library Through Your Pocket PC

http://www.manicwave.com/blog/archives/000155.html

Back in July I wrote about the eyeTuner project, which promised to control iTunes through your Pocket PC. As a huge iTunes fan I was very happy with this news, and according to the responses to my post, so where many others. Alas it now seems that eyeTunes is no longer under development. The developer is not about to release a binary, but the source is available for download. If you want to take on this project, you can contact Jeff.

As posted in the original thread on Pocket PC Thoughts, there is already an alternative, called RemoteAmp 2.0, which supports both WinAmp and iTunes for Windows. With its set of features, this application looks really promising. You can get it at PocketGear [affiliate] for $19.95, and a trial version is available. I haven't had the time to test it yet myself, but does anybody else have any experience with RemoteAmp?

I'm actually writing the review of RemoteAmp right now. I'm a little behind schedule, but in a nutshell, it's pretty nifty.

Default WinAmp/iTunes Remote

It's a great application!
Looking forward to/hoping for the added ability to change Airtunes speaker designation, remotely.

Default I own this

I bought this awhile ago. I dont use Itunes much, but I use this to remotely control my winamp all the time. Teamed with a free pocket streamer software the streams whatever music my computer is playing over the net, I can listen to my entire mp3 collection and control it anywhere where i have a wifi connection. Obviously this is really cool. It also works great around the house just to change music when i am in any room. I can control the sound level, songs, and everything. I have to say it has a really slick design and all. I started coding something up and could control winamp myself, but i realized for 20 bucks i would never have my own program work as well and look as nice as this and it owuld take me many more hours of programming to get it to this level. So a nice hooray from me to the makers of remote amp who have made my life a little easier.

(note i might sound overly enthusiastic i have no relations or anything to the remote amp company, i just like the product)

I worked closely with Matt on eyeTuner to develop some graphics, so I'm a bit sad to hear he's moved on to other things! I tested about an alpha/beta version of his software, and it showed a lot of potential. He seemed pretty close to having a good piece of software, and a tool to make some money as well! If someone has the experience, they should definitely pick his source code up and finish the project!

Also, I bought RemoteAmp way back when it was version 1, and also worked to create a skin for the software! Overall, I found version 1 to not be as useful as I hoped, and ended up not using it all that much. When I heard of V.2, I got a copy (no cost upgrades!) and gave it a shot! It really impressed me this time around, and had a very robust interface. It worked rock solid, and had a great way of browsing your library (Genre/Artist/Album) via a branching tree interface that was very useful. I could say a lot more if anyone is interested, but the bottom line is that it's a good piece of software. Unfortunately, I don't have a wi-fi pocketpc (don't want to buy the SD card for it!), so all my use had to come from a bluetooth connection, and second, I dont' have an Airport Express unit to deliver the music into different rooms (or any other wireless/wired setup). Wish I did though! The reality is, when I get some cash in hand, and hopefully when Apple drops the price of the Express unit, I'll snag one!

Is this of relevance to what we're discussing? Granted, it's not a WiFi remote control, still, it is a pretty good idea given its sweet price point:

ppcTunes http://www.pocketmac.net/products/ppctunes/index.html, from the makers of the Pocket Mac sync software.
