Dragons, Fair Maidens, and Villians: Arvale Has Arrived!
"Arvale: Journey of Illusion is an epic Role Playing Game, with over 20 hours of gameplay, six immense continents with 280 maps to explore, 200 different monsters to fight against, and over a hundred different items, weapons, and magic spells to use."
I've always been a sucker for RPG games, and this new release by PDAmill will definitely satisfy my "RPG-palate" for a while. So if you enjoy casting spells, slaying dragons, rescuing fair maidens, or exploring deserts, swamps, castles and snowfields, then I suggest you take a look at this long-awaited release. You can lay your hands on a trial copy or purchase the full version for $19.95 at Handango. [Affiliate]

There are few games with an interface that's intuitive enough for me to play without becoming frustrated and giving up. Arvale, however, is one of those games. It's fun and easy to play. I highly recommend it.

I recommend playing the demo before purchase. The interface is nice and the graphics sufficient, but some of the game systems were, to my taste, lacking. Combat was particularly flat.

It looks like Final Fantasy 5 or, maybe 6.. been a while. It seems to be a good game, but I think I would prefer it in landscape, which does not seem to be an option. I played through a good bit of the demo, it seems to be enough to get a feel for the game.
When I saw 280 maps on 6 massive islands to explore I hoped for a second this may be an adventure on the scale of Morrowind (many moons worth of gameplay), but it seems I still have a while to wait for an adventure on that scale as this game has about 20 hours of gameplay, good for telling a story, but sorta lacking for some serious adventure gamers.
Back to Scumm I go, to locate the lost city of Atlantis
I may save the princess from Dragons in a couple months.

I actually prefer it not to be landscape. I am turned off by games that must be played in landscape mode.

I wrote a review for this game and it can be found at the site in my signature. FYI: I also wrote that long HX4700 review that received 15,000+ unique hits--you probably saw it.

being a huge rpg nut, this could have turned out well. It seemed to be heading in the right direction, but it dont go nearly as far as it needs to. For one, the ppc allready has the everquest games which are a descent rpg (though not really good enough for me to keep on my ppc).
imo this game really needs help on a) graphics, and b) battles engine.
Graphic wise its a good start, what is there looks good, but why are there so few icon graphics? Even I with my lowly PS skillz could have increased the inventory icon selection tenfold in a single day. Why are there not even some simple blob shadows? Why don't characters have a frame of animation for taking damage, something that happens hundreads of time per game. And the battle engine seems downright bad, first... no classes, not even an attempt. Actually.. I think spells are only casted from weapon items, and expendable items? Also no classes means you can choose any weapon type, and therefore one will allways dominate. Second, one on one encounters, even FF1 allowed for more then 2 enemies in a fight.
Otherwise, maps look good, portraits were of good quality, just needs a bit more work.

I doth recant my hearesy
This game is excellent. Hands down sweet.
I usually dont go for games like this, but I forced myself to play through level 5 (demo) then was a little hooked and had 20$ to blow.. so.. well i got it. I then forced myself to play through level 20, and on. i would not let myself put this down and now have about 12 hours into it at level 60. I will keep swearing i hate this game, but i hope it never ends. in the game are rumours of a sequel. I hope it is quick in arriving. I will hate my way through it as soon as it is released.
