The Register Reviews HTC's Blue Angel
"No company has done as much to advance Microsoft Windows Mobile telephony hardware than Taiwan's HTC. The company's smart phones have been offered by numerous vendors and networks, as have its phone-equipped PocketPCs, most notably as the O2 XDA family. And not content to find one good design and stick with it, over the last few years HTC has continued to evolve each line. HTC's latest PocketPC design is codenamed 'Blue Angel'. It may sound like an escort agency, but that hasn't prevented it being picked up by Europe's key networks and plenty of others around the world. I looked at i-mate's PDA 2k, courtesy of Expansys, but the same hardware also appears as the O2 XDA IIs, Vodafone VPA III, T-Mobile MDA III, Orange SPV M2000 and other labels besides."
A nice, detailed review from The Register - if you've been sizing this unit up, you should certainly check this review out. About the only thing this unit lacks (in my opinion) is VGA.

Yeah, VGA would be nice but throw VGA in there along with a bigger battery to support it, and you get a PDA-Phone that's significantly pricier than the already-steep price of $900.
I wonder if the rumors of Cingular picking this up at $700 are true.

I am debating between this model (PDA2K) and the O2 branded XDAIIs. So far, I have not found any significant differences between the 2 (other than the black colour of the casing for the O2 model) and there does not seem to be any proprietary (read: useless) software installed in the ROM of the O2 model.
I have seen unlocked O2 versions for about CDN$1250 (which is a little over US$1,000) but I also note that someone is selling the PDA2K on HowardForums for US$815.

Do you mean "looks" better from an "appearance" stand point, or do you mean it looks like a better device?
If the former, I agree with you, if the latter, why?

There seems to be quite a price difference though. You can get the PDA2K for US$815 from Madmonkeyboy over at HowardForums, or CDN$1250 (with a free case) from some on-line Canadian vendors.
The black XDAIIs, I have seen only from one Canadian vendor for $1,250.
That is quite a big price difference from US$815, given the current exchange rate. Have you committed yet?

I wonder whether Leonard and the gang over at PocketPCTechs would be willing to do a body replacement for the silver PDA2K.
It shouldn't be too hard to get the casings for them should it?

If the ONLY difference is case colour, given that I will probably use it in a case, then I would go for the one that is least expensive, which right now, is the MadMonkeyboy US$815 special.
