Default Seido Releases G2500M Car Kit for iPAQ 63xx series and G2500 Car Kit for iPAQ hx4700

http://www.seidio.com

"The Seidio G2500M Car Kit allows you to drive in complete comfort with your Smartphone. You can listen to GPS commands or audio books through the built-in amplified speaker while your Smartphone is being charged in the cradle. This car kit is also used as a hands-free speakerphone. The Seidio G2500 Car Kit for iPAQ hx4700 allows the user to drive in complete comfort. You can listen to GPS commands or audio books through the built-in amplified speaker while your iPAQ is being charged in the cradle."

If you spend a lot of time in your car and have a Pocket PC, it makes sense to leverage it to make your time in the car more useful. I haven't used a mount like this before, but the combination of external speakers for GPS/audio books and a hands-free speakerphone looks killer. Do you use a car mount? If so, how is it useful for you?

Default Waiting for review

I would love to have this unit, but I am going to wait for someone to review it. My concern is the quality of the speakerphone capabilities; will the speaker resonate in the mic and cause an echo issue for the person on the other end :?: I would love to have the enhanced audio for gps prompts instead of being tethered by the earbud.

I guess I'll be the sacrificial lamb, I just ordered one for my hx4700. Now to see if it'll mount to my RAM mount is the question, since a windshield stick on lasts until the first good bump in my vehicle. Good test for it though..

Default velcro

I use a $.50 mount. Velcro on my Sena Case and a stereo cassette adaptor does it for me, anyway a sophisticated mount like this one would be nice, Why? Because I Can!

I have used a car mount in my car for a number of years. I first used one with my Palm IIIC, then with my Handspring Visor Prism and Visorphone attachement through the iPaq 3870 then iPaq 5455 coupled by bluetooth to a Sony Ericsson T68 then a iPaq 5555 coupled by bluetooth to a Sony Ericsson T610. I presently use a iPaq 6315 in my car mount. The easy access that the PDA in a car mount provides is revelatory. Every bit of information that you need is within easy reach. The only problem is to resist accessing information as you drive. The particular mount that I presently use was designed to accomodate an iPaq with an expansion pack attached. I no longer use a device with expansion capabilities so now I have a book reading light attached where the space is left open for an expansion pack. I have able to access the internet in my car as well as all of my other PDA information for about four years. I really enjoy the convenience of car mounting of a PDA.

If you're looking for a review of it I'll put one together shortly, once I can get some digital shots. Bought one for my hx4700, and I'm *far* from impressed. Some highlights:

Design interferes with front screen shield closing when unit in cradle.. as in the cover on the iPaq can't close.

Connector on bottom out of place and PPC has to be tweaked into the cradle to engage.

Speaker location facing backwards blocks the volume and isn't a lot better than the iPaq by itself on high volume.

I'm going to put the review together and then drop a message to Seidio for comments before releasing it, but those are the high points. I'm *not* impressed with the unit at all.
