Carrier Devices Officially Launches i-Mate CDMA Pocket PC Phone
"i-mate today are proud to announce the launch of its first 3G product, the imate PDA2K EVDO. This launch represents a worldwide first for i-mate, with Australia identified as the ideal launch pad of a global rollout. The new i-mate PDA2K EVDO represents a technological breakthrough as it is the first ever 3G capable device powered by the Microsoft Windows Mobile platform, and is also the first integrated device operating on Australias CDMA 1xEV-DO network."

As I've mentioned before, this is the HTC Harrier OEM device, with high-speed CDMA 1xEVDO data, Bluetooth, and a slide-out keyboard. Sprint has officially announced that they will be selling this unit as the Audiovox 6600, while it's rumored that Verizon will be carrying this. In the meantime, it's great to see Australians get another option for CDMA high-speed data using the Pocket PC platform. 8)

No, it's CDMA, not GSM. There is a similar machine that is quad-band GSM, though.

I wonder what the battery life will be like with that 3G modem-a-blazin'...that's the big challenge with 3G right now.

Helloooo? Did someone forget Canada??
Geez, I love all this new gadgetry, but like.. is Canada not ever in the running? We DO have the highest adoption rate for broadband.. but when will I **EVER** see these devices in Canada? GRR!!!!!
Alls I want is PPCPE, Small (no more than 2cm thick), and powerful so I can do the things I want. I WOULD buy a standalone PPC, but then I'd also be carrying my phone around, which is NOT what I want.
It's seriously frustrating not being able to get access to these things... Contemplating getting a Treo, but I want to be able to do more with it than what comes out of the box! ugh.
