Default Pen Stroke-Based Zooming for PDA Screens

http://www.trnmag.com/Stories/2004/...ter_102004.html

"The proliferation of the Internet and the increasing popularity of handheld computing devices pose a challenge: it is difficult to read and navigate through Web pages displayed on small screens. Several research teams have addressed the problem with various methods of zooming in on relevant content from a Web page to make it easier to view. Researchers from Microsoft Research, Microsoft Research Asia, and Tsinghua University in China have devised an interface that goes a step further by allowing a user to zoom in on relevant content and collapse irrelevant content with a single pen stroke. The interface could eventually be included as an extension to small-screen Web browsers."

While MS Research is generally quite separate from other divisions in the company, this technology looks practical, and I hope MS will implement it in Pocket PCs someday. 8)

Its already available in some form w/ the MSN toolbar and the MSN application for the desktop version of IE... doesn't help us much in the ppc arena though... I'm personally not to impressed w/ it (it is currently a highlight viewer) and definitely would have to be used w/ a VGA since QVGA already has too little space to view pages.

Looks like a desktop IE browser for that prototype.

Nice to have feature. But what I really need in pocket IE is the 'right click and open in new windows' feature that we found in desktop IE.
