Conduits Releases Pocket Slides 2.0
"Conduits Technologies, Inc. announced today the release of Pocket Slides 2.0, a fully featured presentation solution for the Windows Powered Pocket PC, Pocket PC 2002, Windows Mobile 2003 and Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition-compatible devices. Pocket Slides enables users to employ presentations on their mobile device by viewing and giving presentations, and is the only product on the market that permits the creation and editing of presentations on the mobile device. Existing presentations from Microsoft� PowerPoint� can be transferred from the desktop to the device using Pocket Slides� Conversion software. Pocket Slides 2.0 improves upon earlier versions by increasing the overall product strength�adding seven global languages, broader support for VGA hardware and remote controls, sound and music support. The four main uses of presentations�creation, viewing, editing, and presenting�have all been improved and expanded with Pocket Slides 2.0."
Pocket Slides 2.0 looks like a major release from Conduits - with VGA support, this looks like a powerful tool for anyone who gives presentations frequently.

I guess 'major update' means no free upgrade as my old registration code from 1.8 does not work!

This is definitely a major update (the press release and website list the major features introduced since 1.8 ), and we are offering free upgrades to all users who have purchased 1.X between April 1, 2004 and today. Before that time period, you certainly qualify for an upgrade discount.

I feel really bad coming up with a feature request on the day of a major new release, but to me the major benefit of this type of product would be if I could handle PPT files natively. I know there is a converter, but there are too many situtations where frankly it is too much of a fiddle to do that. To me, the major benefit of this software would be to allow me to leave my laptop behind. As it stands, I don't really see how I can do that. For example, what if I'm away from my office and someone e-mails me a PPT file? Answer; ask them to download a converter, convert, and resend. Fine if you have the time for the round trip, less good if time is of the essence, which it often is in meeting situations.

That's certainly a problem and request we have had since releasing Pocket Slides 1.0. We still would like to address that problem in some way, but there are some current workarounds for your situation.
First, there is the workaround you mentioned -- having the sender download the PPT to CPT converter. Secondly, if you download your email through remotely ActiveSync'ing to your PC, and then downloading the Outlook email that way (or, if you receive an inbox attachment and sync it locally), those PPT's will be converted into CPT's. This leaves the problem of directly popping a PPT file from your mailbox, and we hope to have a workaround for that situation as well; perhaps through a web service to which you could upload the PPT file (or have it pull from your mailbox), and download a CPT file as a result.
For the 2.0 release, we focused on implementing the many other feature requests we received, and vastly improving upon the editing facilities of Pocket Slides, which is its strong strength.

Clearvue suite will allow you to view native .ppt files and it supports VGA out cards. No editing of text or creating of new slides though. I have it on my hp 4700 and it works very well!

I've been beta testing this and it really is the only game in town when it comes to doing powerpoint on your pocketpc.
There are so many new features in it that are crammed on your pocketpc.
Like hyperlinks, shapes, templates, backgrounds in fact the most common features you would use when running up a quick powerpoint anytime anywhere.

It's great to see your team putting in the effort to deliver that bit of functionality that Microsoft neglected to include in their Pocket Office suite.
The program is well and truly feature-packed and a nice addition to the Pocket PC. I regularly have to create PowerPoint presentations when I present tutorials to uni students and it's great to be able to create presentations on-the-go. Definitely a nice complement to PowerPoint on the PC. 
Keep up the good work. 
P.S. So when can we expect updates to the other Conduits software? :P
