Nokia 7710 Rumours and Picture
Engadget has a fair whack of interesting info at the moment. They have just put up a picture and some rumours about Nokia's new 7710 mobile phone. The speculation is that the 7710 will be very similar to the 7700, which was never actually put into production. The pictures show that he 7710 does not have a keyboard or keypad. Remember that all this is just rumour at the moment. So, there's no word on cost or when this may actually be available:
The 7700 never made it off the ground for a variety of reasons, but it did sport a passing resemblance to a stormtrooper helmet, and have some fully rad specs: a huge 640x320 pixel touchscreen, a built-in FM tuner that worked with Nokias new Visual Radio service, an MP3 player, and the ability to stream video off of the web. It was also supposed to be the first handset to run on the new multimedia-centric Series 90 operating system and wed be surprised if the 7710 didnt share most of those traits.

Heh if only Nokia would release something like this. I would love it. The RF power of a Nokia with a PDA feel. I would love to see something like this available to purchase at a reasonable price even if it was overseas. Nokia would make a killer pda/phone that might rival some of the ones out here now. I love my h6315 even with some of its quirks but the rf is not quite there yet and I think it will never be there till they look at why Nokia is so popular for that very reason. I dont mind charging my battery everyday......

I wonder if this 7710 will also have support for digital TV (DVB-H) like it's older sibling... ? :? That would be kind of sweet, but then I would have to move down to Helsinki to test it.
Hm... when is the next big tech gathering where Nokia might announce this model... *looks through the calendar* 'Kay, no chance of it happening this year...

screen envy
I am looking forward to someone stretching the limits on screen size like this for a pocketpc. The screen size it the biggest frustration for me. With the higher speed processors it would seem to be time for this.

The target market certainly varies, but in my opinion, a phone is a phone. Nokia's new range of devices seem to be getting bulkier and pricier and packed with features that not everyone would use.
I recently got a 6610i for my birthday and love its small form factor and the features packed into it. Sure...it may not be the best mobile out there but all I need to do is make calls.
If I felt the need to get a device of this size (7710), I'd probably go for a Pocket PC (with phone capabilities).
I'm only making a comment here on my own thoughts, but I'm sure everyone else would think different, and some would definitely have the need to want such a device. 8)

Well, no more rumours. Click here for the real deal.
The 7710 will be available in Asia later this year and in Europe and Africa early in 2005, Nokia said. It's priced at 500 ($638).
