Default nVidia Announces GoForce 3D 4500 for Mobile Devices

http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/345/C3224/

"NVIDIA Corporation, a worldwide leader in graphics and digital media processors, today unveiled the GoForce 3D 4500, the world's first 3D wireless media processor (WMP). The NVIDIA GoForce 3D 4500 WMP enables a whole new level of interactive content not previously possible on cell phones, PDAs, or other handheld devices. For the first time, mobile content developers can harness a powerful 3D medium to create rich, dynamic, lifelike worlds and characters. Additionally, mobile devices powered by the new 3D WMP will be able to synthesize amazingly realistic environments with objects that behave according to complex physics and intelligent characters with true-to-life personalities."

I have no idea what the power requirements were to generate that image in the press release, but if we can get graphics like that on Pocket PCs I'd be very happy. There's more information on the unit on nVidia's product page.

Just imagine, in a few years all you'll need to bring to a LAN party is a Pocket PC and a pair of video glasses!

How about input? Some sort of freeform glove? VR in your pocket? I can't wait.

I was just thinking you would use the stylus and built-in gamepad.

Man, we're going to have some unholy-scary-incredible PPC's sometime in 2005...

in 2005 we should have this video integrated into the PPC, VGA, 800MHz+.. Nice!

Damn, what's next? 8O

In theory, if this chipset comes out in a real PPC by this time, next year, then Q3A on a PocketPC may become a reality! (Carmack is releasing the source code soon, once the Doom 3 hooplah has died down)

So, one of the remaining problems will be input - stylus/gamepad still doesn't cut it for games because they're designed for productivity use (or at least, the hardware usually is).

Pretty nice grafx, I really appreciate this necessary developments, but Id like to have another thing forced: more battery power!

The best grafics chip on my pda is useless if I can use it only for about ohne hour - theres no gaming fun then with it.

That's a screenshot from the racing game that comes bundled with the Tapwave Zodiac. I've forgotten the name of the actual game.
