Pocket PC Passion Update
"Well, I just got off the phone with Dale, and there is goods news and bad news. The bad news is that all attempts to recover Pocket PC Passion have failed. The good news is that he has the software guys busy putting together "Mobile Passion" a new site or sequel to Passion. It should show up on line in the next 2-3 weeks. It will be much like Passion with the forums linked to the front page. It will cover all things Windows Mobile including, PPCs, Smartphones, Windows Media Players, and whatever else may come along. So although all past history is gone the site will be back which should hopefully see the community build again."
Dave Evans, a.k.a. Paragon, has posted that update in the forums, and I wanted to make it front page so that people would be updated on where Pocket PC Passion is at. This is great news - go get 'em Dale!

This is sad news....
That is a shame, there was a great deal of info archived there. Well good luck Dale, with the new site... and I will see you in a week or so at the Pocket PC User's Group meeting in Atlanta! ( http://www.pocketpcatlanta.com )

I just don't get it. Did Dale's service provider only do ONE backup over the last 4 years?!?! And the restore failed?
I just don't understand how you lose EVERYTHING???
All I can say is this sounds like a job for lawsuitman. Look up in the sky. Faster then a speeding legal brief. More powerful then OJ's defense team. Able to hurl damning evidence at the defendants at unheard of speeds. Its...well its just about any lawyer on the planet. I mean I'm assuming Dale had some agreement with the ISP and they screwed up. Unless there was some fine print it sounds pretty damning to me. *shrugs* But I'm not a lawyer. Which I consider a good thing.

Well that is why most sane people who have mission critical apps and data don't simply rely on RAID. RAID is a good starting point, or a finishing point depending on the importance of the data it contains, but no one in their right mind will say that RAID is good enough esp when dealing with a website as old as Dale's. (Again what the heck was that provider thinking?) Bad things happen. That is why backups are just as important as a solid RAID system.

With the amount of traffic and advertisers that Dale has, I would also agree that my lawyers would be getting a quick call from me.
In the end it would not happen again...because I would end up owning the whole damn place and making sure it gets done correctly

One point I have to make here guys, especially for those who don't know Dale. It's not about law suites. It's not about placing blame. It's all about moving forward with what you have, in as positve a way as possible. I wish I was more like that.
There will soon be a new site, let's take it form there. Be cool. 8)

Wow, I'm just mourning all the lost knowledge. PPCP was the first PPC site I ever stumbled on, back when I bought one of the first iPAQs out. It helped me get over a bad case of Palm-itis. Hope everything goes smoothly for Dale's new venture.

I am not placing blame just for the sake of placing it. Someone screwed up....if you ignore that fact then it will happen again.
I agree about moving on....but how does the saying goes...those that ignore the past are doomed to repeat it.
