Carrier Devices To Introduce Two New Pocket PC Phones In Australia
I got word today that Carrier Devices is officially going to sell two new Pocket PC Phones in Australia -- not only the HTC Blue Angel (aka XDA III/MDA III) that we've been talking about all along, but the new tiny (iPAQ 19xx-sized) HTC phone I mentioned last week. Confusingly, they're naming the units the PDA2k and the JAM, respectively (my main gripe about the amazing HTC hardware that's been produced over the years is the inconsistent naming by all the retail/channel vendors). You can click on each image for a large version.
What makes this doubly cool is that I know the Carrier Devices units sell well globally -- many people make them available for exporting, as people here have gotten their previous i-Mate product. Add the fact that they're both quadband, and perhaps even GSM carriers in North America will adopt them. I can't wait.
(Incidentally, they also announced two Smartphones today, which you can read about over on our sister site, Smartphone Thoughts.)

I absolutely love seeing the i-mate logo on these things!
I'm still hoping for a USA release of the O2 version with the faster processor and 1.3MP camera, but I'll take this, too!
The new device was released as an i-mate phone. And there was much rejoicing.

Yes, but how do you *really* feel about it?
Indeed, very nice devices.

How much do you think the price of the XDA3 in aussie ?
In indonesia, I would say it will be at least USD 900.
Right now the XDA2 is still priced at USD 800.
Crazy.

An XDA2 for that price is expensive. While I'm referring to "high-price plans", I'm making a reference to the plans provided by one of our telecommunications providers as part of a "phone"-"plan" all-in-one package. You can, of course, purchase the units separately from another agent. I'm not sure how much the XDA3 would be, but when I find out, I'll let you know.

Funny that there were no leaks on the jam. I am really excited about the form factor. I tried going back to a phone only and sycnching with out look, but I lasted and hour. The scrolling got to me. This may be just what I have been waiting for.
