Default Acky's XP Breakout Released

http://www.isotope244.com/games/ab/...p-breakout.html

Isotope244 Graphics, the developer that brought us games like Atomic Cannon (one of the few arcade games I actually have enough coordination to play) has just released a new arcade game for the Pocket PC, Acky's XP Breakout.

"Using a reflective space pad, you destroy bricks, and move through 150 action-filled levels. Unlike simple arkanoid games that let you shoot level after level of boring bricks, Acky's XP Breakout lets you work with 26 unique power items and 80 different brick types. The gameplay is always changing, with a dynamic mesh of particle effects, point bonuses, and mesmerizing object morphing. There are special gemstone and blaster items, as well as bricks that explode, ghost, move, and shatter. You even get to create the balls that you use to break the bricks."

I have to admit that this may be the second arcade game I permanently install on my Pocket PC. I don't have a very broad range of experience with arcade games, though, so if anybody's spent time with Acky's XP Breakout, we'd all appreciate your comments.

You can grab a free demo or buy the full version for $12.95 (including a VGA high-resolution version) from the Isotope244 Web site. You'll also find a Windows desktop version for $16.95 and a streaming video that shows the game highlights.

I had the opportunity to review this game for the Pocket PC Louisville website. I found the game to be the best Breakout type of game ever written for the Pocket PC or even my PC! The game offers state of the art graphics and options that makes this version THE BEST!

Trust me, it's worth downloading the trial or purchasing a full version.

I've spent quite a bit of time with the desktop version and PocketPC version. Both of them are awesome.

They aren't as flashy as some of the other desktop versions but the gameplay is deeper. You wouldn't normally think that a breakout style game could have deep gameplay but this one has long term strategy involved if you want do well rather than just getting to the next level.

The one problem with the depth is that the demo doesn't do justice for these games. Since the demo is limited in the number of levels you can play you never really have to get into the strategy of filling up the bonus meters.

On top of the awesome gameplay it has an amazing rendering engine. This is the first time I've ever seen true particle effects on a pocketpc game. When I first saw particle effects listed I though "ho hum, no big deal" but after playing the game I started to look forward to the getting the next bonus so I could see the ball carve it's way through the bonus text particle effects.

I highly recommend both games. Try the demo.
