iPAQ 6315 Comparison Pics
Curious how the iPAQ 6315 "stacks up" to the competition? This post at pdaPhoneHome provides some very useful comparison pictures.
As far as I can tell, the 6315 is quite compact when the thumbboard is not attached, but the thumbboard does add some bulk. If I were carrying the unit around, I'd probably only carry the thumbboard sparingly. How do you new 6315 owners deal with the snap-on thumbboard?

I've held the Hitachi and the Treo...
Conclusion for me: I am definately waiting for the MPx

I only use my keyboard sparingly...while in TextMaker or when I feel like posting on the boards in PIE.
Besides the bulk, not being able to scroll a page kinda stinks with the keyboard attached.
Personally, I can't see anyone walking around with the keyboard attached...the device isn't as functional with it attached, besides being bulky.
Much appreciated that it was included in the package, though.

I wouldn't mind carrying the keyboard connected at all times except for two issues:
One, the keyboard covers up the joy pad. There are "blue" keys that can be used to go up, down, left and right but it's not the same. Second, there is no power/data connector at the bottom of the keyboard meaning you have to pull it off every time you want to sync or charge. As you said, the keyboard is a "sparingly used" device.

My keyboard has been in my laptop bag this week while I've been traveling on business and I haven't pulled it out once to use, even when I was sending SMS to my friends in Europe. Don't know how much use I will ever get out of it.
Using the Treo was different, since most of the major applications were geared around using the keyboard, so it's also a learning process for me.

Don't use it at all. Can't say that I'd use a "built in" one either. Im fine tapping away at the virt keyboard. Am pretty efficient at it now  Besides, I didn't get the device to type out essays.
Without the keyboard the 6315 pockets nicely.

I think the thumboard works well with the Treo because the screen is smaller, and there is no Graffiti pad.
With the Pocket PC Phones, you have the ability to use Graffiti, Soft Keyboard, Letter Recognizer, and Transcriber. And that pretty much makes the thumbboard redundant.
I'd rather have a fold away keyboard which I can whip out when I need to type fast. That thumbboard would just end up somewhere in my desk, just because it looks really, odd shaped, if you were to have it in your pants pocket. :?

I've never held one of these new Pocket PCs, but I always reconfigure the Record button to the ScrollDown function. It's not a perfect solution, but since I seldom use the Recorder, it's better than nothing.

Currently I'm using a Pocket PC without cell phone capabilities, I was wondering if people who use it think it is good to have them both on the same device?
Isn't it a bit too big for a mobile phone that I carry with me all the time?

Nope...not at all. I have been using a Treo 600 for the last few months and it is one of my two favorites. The other is the Motorola V600. The Treo is not very large and lets me handle all the PIM basics that I need...and it has alot of extras that make it fun to use. Although I don't yet own the 6315, I have played around with it and it is definitely not so much bigger than the Treo that it would prevent me from carrying it, and it offers much more functionality than the Treo. We'll see from other users whether it actually works though...
Having an integrated PDA and cell phone is awesome, and for me it is because of something you mentioned. I always have my mobile phone with me, but rarely did I carry my PPC. It would always be in my bookbag, the car, a locker, at home...or if it was with me on campus I left the sound off so as to not disturb class. Well, that's all pretty useless. Syncing all my PIM info, then leaving the device behind so as not to have multiple devices crammed into my pockets is silly, since I can't make use of the PIM info, and won't hear the calendar alerts! My mobile is always with me, and with these devices(as long as they're the right size) so is my PDA.
