Default HP Belgium Offering iPAQ Downloads

http://www.compaq.be/publicimages/i...ketPC/Software/

This is rather peculiar, but it's up on a public site and it seems anyone can download the files: the HP/Compaq Belgium site has the Windows Media Player version 8, which doesn't seem to be available from the Microsoft download page. If memory serves, WMP8 was what iPAQ 1910 owners were always looking for. Grab it while you can. And the odd part is that they're also offering OS upgrades:

PPC2002upgrade4iPAQh3630.zip
PPC2002upgrade4iPAQh3630FR.zip
PPC2003foriPAQh5450-EN.exe

I don't know if that 2003 upgrade is the same one that HP is charging $29.99 USD for (I'd link to it but HP uses session IDs that are hard to parse out), but if it is, then it's even stranger. If this was coming from a source other than HP, it's consider it warez, but this is an official HP/Compaq site, so....!? 8O

This reminds me of AIM for Pocket PC offered on the AOL FTP site, uner the UK folder. :? A little odd, but hey, if T-Mobile can offer free GPRS, I'll take some free software too.

You know if you were smart you'd stop saying it's free and be quiet and just keep going on the free ride. I just asked T-Mobile the other day and they know of no such thing. Enoy while it lasts and be quiet!
...ANYWAY....

Would I load any of this? Probably not as I bet it's not even the right language! Now if it was English and listed as english AND a 2003 SE upgrade...well, I would consider it but probably would not load it.

BTW, the Windows Media Player V8 on this site is a build that works on a Ipaq 1910. I bought a 1910 for a friend a couple of weeks ago and it didn't have the CD so we were beat for WMP till I saw this site a few days ago.

Cluelessness is hardly unusual for T-Mobile. Once, over the course of six different CS calls, they gave me three different answers as to whether I could get T-Mobile service.

For the 36xx you have your choice of english and french, the 54xx rom is english only.

I just installed WMP 8.5 for my 3970. I wish they would put PPC 2003 upgrade for 3970 on that site!

As one of the original people who spread news about that waaayyy back when, I gotta point out that it's basically dead (when PPC thoughts pointed out it not working a few weeks ago it still worked in most of the US, but not anymore).. it still works in a few areas of the country (and some people are trying hacks using their own portals - which are also reportedly stopping working) but it's being shut down region by region and now most of the US can't access it anymore (you'll get a "sign up for tzones" page on your phone and connecting on your PC/ppc your pages will just time out).. you have to sign up for the $4.99/month tzones plan now for browsing.

A bummer, but what can you do? $5/month for unlimited browsing is waaay less than most providers who charge $80-100ish for unlimited, if they offer it at all. T-Mobile still rules. In terms of data plans.

Not to go off topic too much more (sorry!), but it still works fine for me. I have a new contract too (8/7/2004), so who knows.

Also be careful quoting! Hate being misquoted lol.

Now to return to the mysterious Belgium iPaq downloads...

You weren't being misquoted, but I've fixed it anyway. :P
