Default BetaPlayer To Support Plugins for Additional Codecs

http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/for...0649&highlight=

Sharp-eyed forum denizen DJ Apod noticed that the BetaPlayer homepage has a link teasingly entitled "Additional Plugins". The good news is that one of the plugins is for ASF, which will allow BetaPlayer to play WMV1, 2 and 3 files. The (kinda) bad news is that the plugins are only available in an "unstable" release. I've long been a fan of PocketMVP, but BetaPlayer has made a convert out of me. Anyone else excited about this? 8)

Update: Per picard (creator of BetaPlayer), the ASF functionality *only* works in WM2003. Just so you know.

Excited everytime I hear news about BetaPlayer.
Picard the guy that wrote it has done an excellent job. I've used it on the iPAQ2210, Tosh E800 and the E200 smartphone and all the movies i've played look and sound great and it works even better in VGA on the Toshiba.

It even runs pretty good on my 1915 - that is, if I have a file that's encoded just right. I can only play certain avi files with a certain codec, but I also have a lot of stuff with different codecs (Like MPEG4). So any new codecs/plugins would be very welcome indeed.

It runs just fine with full screen DIVX video on my 1910. Watched Shrek 2 on it the other day. It compressed nicely down to fit on a 256MB SD card.

What were your settings to compress the Divx to a 256 chip. I have a Tosh E800 and use DVD to Pocket PC to quickly compress videos into a wmv format but with SE it comes up with a quarter size screen so I am looking at betaplayer as a replacement. I don't believe that betaplayer can play the wmv files.....yet.

Nice to see we're all excited!

Okay, you should be able to compress a file down to approximately 170MB, depending on the length.

Usually, you can use the standard default settings in PocketDivXEncoder to do it. It always gives a projected file size so you have some rough idea as to how big your file will be when you finish rendering it. If you want to fix a few jags here and there, you can modify some keyframe settings (I think PocketDivXEncoder offers this setting - or I may be getting it confused with another program). Hopefully this should help you out.

To my knowledge, the latest unstable version does support WMV too...

ops. now i have to hurry with the official release

you can test the asf plugin with the unstable version (download and install both betaplayer and asf cab or setup files).

but i can't stress this enough: Windows Media is ONLY supported under WM2003 and above. because i use the original codecs in the ROM (which are only accessable from WM2003).
