Default Another Pocket PC In The Movies

I just went to see the new movie, "The Bourne Supremacy" this afternoon. For the first few scenes of the movie, I wasn't quite sure whether I liked it or not. But then, one of the secret agent-type people quickly whipped out a Pocket PC. For a moment, I was elated to see the iPAQ 5500 on the big screen.

The filmmakers obviously knew that the 5500 has some form of fingerprint scanning capability. But, the guy in the movie used the screen of the iPAQ as a miniature flatbed scanner, using it to lift some fingerprints and zip them off to Intepol or somewhere for matching. Oh, well. At least it was a Pocket PC and not one of those "other" devices.

I know I've seen Pocket PCs in a few other movies, including a James Bond flick, but I can't recall any others. Anybody remember seeing a Pocket PC in a movie?

I have seen both iPAQ 1910/1940 in the 3'rd series of 24. "CTU" seem to use Pocket Pc's extensively.

I also recall them using GPS systems on PPCs (I can't remember which one) in Season One too!

Ben Affleck uses a PDA in 'The sum of all fears'. I think it was one of those old Jornadas, but I'm not sure.

I've also seen several PDA's on ER.

Yeah I thinking about this the other night. How many different shows, movies etc pocket pc's appear.

Two and a half men (TV Show Charlie Sheen) two HP iPAQ 5500 appear for instance

James Bond used a HP Jornada I think can't remember which film though.

The Bond movie was "The World is Not Enough"

Didn't The Bourne Identity have one in it?

The movie 'The Day After Tomorrow' featured the Trimble GeoXT in a number of scenes. Despite not being a consumer product, the GeoXT is a combined GPS/PDA device running the Windows Mobile 2003' OS. While the science in the rest of the movie was debatable, the use of the GeoXT was pretty reasonable.

Sidney Bristow used an iPaq in the post-Superbowl episode of Alias.

They used a Casio E-xxx in the first Charlie's Angels movie but Cameron Diaz called it a "Palm Pilot".

I believe that Angelina Jolie's Lara Croft in the first Tomb Raider movie used a state-of-the-art Cassiopeia PocketPC.

Great thread! Any more?

The last Bugs Bunny movie with Brendan something features a PocketPC mobile phone (I believe it was a Samsung) and some old Handspring Treos.

The first Charlie's Angels movie has the 'baddie' using a Casio Palm-Size PC while the Angels were using a Handspring Visor to read his appointments that were downloaded.

The use of a PDA as a scanner in a movie was done before in James Bond movie 'Tomorrow Never Dies'. Bond used his Ericsson (which was a touch panel smartphone) to scan the panel for fingerprints.

I did not remember seeing a PocketPC in Tomb Raider. Angelina was using a PDA but it was a Ericsson concept smartphone.

The Tungsten C will feature heavily in Britanny Murphy's next movie - Little Black Book due out soon.
