How To: Stream in Da Noize, Stream in Da Funk
"An anonymous reader asks, "Is there a way I can broadcast music on my computer to my Pocket PC? I frequently lounge on my patio and would love a way to listen to music without needing to download the songs I want before I get outside." Based on the question, I'm assuming this particular reader has a wireless home network. Without wireless, there isn't a practical way to broadcast anything to a remote location on the premises of your homestead. Microsoft provides a reasonably simple solution for broadcasting audio and video across a home network using the free Windows Media Encoder. The initial setup requires a few steps, but you should be listening to music on the patio in a matter of minutes."
Jake Ludington and his Digital Lifestyle provide concise instructions on how to stream tunes from your PC to your Pocket PC. I've done this myself and it's a piece of cake. Has anyone else done this? Are you using some other software or method to stream in your noize and funk?

It didn't work for me.
WMP on my Pocket PC pulls in the name of the stream and then shuts down. I used WinAmp instead of WMP on the PC but that shouldn't make a difference since the encoder is just capturing whatever it going through the sound card.
Did anyone else get this to work?
This free player lets you use shoutcast playlists and get streaming radio. Woulnd't it be a more convenient alternative?

I also use WME sometime with RemoteAmp to control the playlist, but most of the time I just use RemoteAmp and the digital connection between my PC and my home theater system.

OK I got it to work.
I set it up again but I let encoder find a free port instead of running it on the default (8080). I also specified my sound card instead of leaving the default setting.
The stream on the PPC is 10 seconds or so behind the audio on the computer. I guess that's just the lag from encoder doing it's thing. Now I need a PPC app to let me control WinAmp or WMP over the wireless network.

what in the hell?
Uhmm... download one of the many file explorers like rescos kick butt one, and simply load your mp3's into one of the many pocket pc players (some are more network friendly then others as well). no need to go about re encoding your files to wma, and you can control exactly what songs you play on your pocket pc.
I know the user ask for a broadcast solution, but the problem being solved does not require it.

Oh goodness me - I second that ....
Just map a network drive with any of the free stuff out there. Forget this re-encoding lark 8O

I've been doing this for quite some time...
It works...
But some steps differ...
1. I go for Custon Session instead of Broadcast
2. Deselect Video on the Session Properties
3. In the Audio Configure page I choose Wave Out Mix instead... which I guess is simlar to the Stereo Mix...
All the rest seems to be the same.
Other than this, if you have a buuilt-in tv-Tuner card, or a video cam attached to your PC, you can also stream video from a TV station, cable-TV, or your own camera...
Now why would you want to do such a thing? Well, if don't want to miss your favorite show, and you find yourself taking a bit too long on the throne... the Pocket PC becomes a nifty solution...

I use Pocket Player works like charm, and I do agree with you why bother encoding. There are easier ways of doing this.

I think this is great, it lets me do some stuff that previously wasn't possible like listen to ANY (real player or Windows media) internet radio on my iPAQ around the house.
Agreed, it's not the easiest way to stream mp3's but it's waaay more versatile than that.

I wrote this last year:

It covers the same process but fills in some gaps around issues of encoder compatibility that may be causing problems for people at the moment.
