MTekk Review of XDAII/i-mate Backpack
Do you ever go hiking, while wearing a heavy daypack? Do you remember the feeling of relief you have the moment you take off that backpack when resting? Well, I'm pretty sure that's how your XDA II or i-mate Pocket PC Phone will feel when you remove the backpack that MTekk has reviewed recently. But just as I still wouldn't go without my daypack on a long hike, Matt M over at MTekk wouldn't go without the backpack on his XDAII.
"The Backpack is quite a clever piece of hardware; the CF slot, extra battery, and video are really handy additions. Nonetheless, it will most certainly not be for everyone. The bulk and awkward size, combined with the inability to fit a case while using it, see to this. The Backpack is certainly useful for professionals on the go who need to deliver Powerpoint presentations; and anyone with a driving need for Compact Flash has pretty much no choice but to go with this. However Id certainly not be getting it purely for the extended battery life; you will spend most of your time without it connected."

I'm impressed: I didn't think anyone could actually get one of those backpacks. The websites (xda-developers.com, etc.) are full of posts like "6 month waiting list" and "backordered". Even O2's site (myxda.com) says "out of stock".
I gave up trying and figured I'd just wait until the XDA V and 4GB SD cards become real.

I had gotten one but I recently sold my XDA II. It was all right, but had some annoyances. First of all, the CF slot was on the bottom of the unit and had CF cards face outward. If you were using a CF WiFi card, you couldn't see the indicator light on it because it would face away from you. Also, as stated, there are no decent cases designed for the combo. Lastly, the unit had sharp edges and little plastic "feet" on the back that dug into the hand with long usage. It was rather uncomfortable to hold for long periods. The shape itself was nice, but all those little protrusions were ridiculous and unnecessary.
