Dave's iPAQ Reviews Earthmate Blue Logger GPS
Jack over at Dave's iPAQ has had a good look at the Earthmate Blue Logger GPS unit. It looks like he had a lot of fun with it:
So what have I been able to do with my Earthmate Blue Logger GPS?
1. I have created log files with my Blue Logger that I have easily been able to import to my device. Using these logs, I have created routes that I have saved for future use. 2. I have been able to create simple and complicated routes (both on my desktop and iPAQ) that have easily guided me to my destinations. 3. I have been able to create specialized maps of long trips to monitor my trip progress and guide me as I drive. 4. Ive used Blue Logger to locate where I am while hiking. 5. I have looked for and found streets or places using a powerful FIND feature.
The review is solid three pages worth of screenshots and impressions. At the end of it, Jack is extremely, or possibly even exceptionally impressed with the unit. If you've always wanted a bright yellow Bluetooth GPS unit, you know where to look.

Hi J. Watkins,
Well, that is an interesting review. I wish I could say the same about my RoyalTek/Destinator GPS setup. I can "cut" maps for selective areas but my system cannot switch from maps to maps without a reconfiguration.
Also, I was big time surprised at the size of the maps in Destinator ... especially, when they do not disclose how big the sectional maps are in memory requirements.
So, I am still looking for software maps for use with my RoyalTek GPS module that are "smarter" than the Destinator maps as travel goes from map to map and state to state and can use "cut" sectional maps without have to reconfig the system.

Hmm...I see that virtual keyboard is available (sorta) for 99 bucks...
ON TOPIC - A GPS unit is something I'll get sooner or later. Of course I never go anywhere, so it might get kind of boring after a bit.
Blue Logger, Blue Logger, Bluelogger...Blogger?

Dang it, now I keep thinking of Blue Lager
Sounds like a neat package for $150 or so. That price seems reasonable to me.

Yes, it sounds almost too good to be true. That's a LOT less than the competitors. Call me cynical, but I wonder why?

Hopefully because DeLorme is a well known name in Mapping and GPS solutions and their normal marketting channels, CompUSA, Best Buy, etc. will provide them wider dissemination and greater market penetration over a wider spread of consumers than those you only see on PPC or GPS techie sites. i.e. they think they can sell volume.

Would this GPS device work with other GPS-aware navigation software? I kind of like the 3D-view / Map rotation in other products.
