Default ...Speaking Of SCOTTeVESTs...

http://portables.about.com/b/a/094344.htm

I just realized that it's been nearly 24 hours since I posted any form of rave about one of my favorite gadget-related companies: SCOTTeVEST, so here we go...! Actually, our discussions today about the new SCOTTeVEST Hidden Cargo Pants reminded me of an interview with the company's founder, Scott Jordan, that About.com recently published. In that interview, Scott answers questions about everything from what devices he carries to where he gets inspiration for his products.

My favorite part of the interview is when Scott describes how his products have been used by some very famous people:

"We never actively marketed to the Secret Service or undercover law enforcement, but they discovered us. I learned through a very reliable source that President Bush saw one of his Secret Service agents wearing a SCOTTeVEST and complimented him on it. Magically, a jacket was delivered to Bush, not by me, with the Presidential seal embroidered on it. We then started getting inquiries from various departments of the newly formed Homeland Defense Department."

When I first read that story, my first thought was how great Scott must feel for his products to earn such recognition. BUT THEN, an even neater thought came over me: I now have something in common with the President, the Secret Service and the Homeland Defense Department (besides that stupid restraining order)! YES!!

In any event, if you want to learn a bit more about the man behind my mania, give the interview a read. [Note: This post is meant to prompt good-natured discussion about my (beloved) SCOTTeVESTs. Any posts that deviate into any kind of political commentary will be immediately deleted.]

I use a Scottevest too (a nice black version 3.0 stealth thingy), and I really like it a lot. At least, I started to like it after I had structured my storing habits. These things are pretty hard on people with bad memory. In the beginning, I was constantly looking for my stuff in the large amounts of pockets, since I forgot where I had left it. The no bulge idea means you can not really tell in what pocket you put that Pocket PC. All you can do, is hope that the alarm of your Pocket PC kicks in, and you'll find it by the sound of it. Or lay your jacket on the ground, and apply a little pressure to the fabric. When you stumble on a strange object, that might be something you lost in there. Or you have discovered yet another pocket, with a little card in it describing what you could keep in there...

I like my jacket too and now that the pants are available I would love to order them.....excpet they STOP at 40inchs in the waist! I have to loose (I would rather not say) weight til I can even consider a pair. Does Scott not know that most geeks have a bigger waist then 40! (even if it's only a inch or two). Make them to 48 or 50 at the max. Plus, the 40 inch ones are a little more in cost...that and the cost 90! Great idea Scott, but poorly executed. I will wait til version 2 (cuz it will take that long or even a bit longer for me to loose the weight....).

I don't have any additional information. But, I know that Scott usually visits these threads, so if there's anything more he can discuss, I'm sure he'll post it here.

Now, Marlof. Be honest. You actually started liking it after you saw how cool I look in mine, right?

I know how you feel. I've "lost" several styli in the pockets before. And, I've spent HOURS searching my house for things like my favorite earbuds, only to eventually remember that I had stashed them for safekeeping in my vest.

I know my English isn't that good, but "cool" wouldn't be the word I'd use to desribe it. Let it be sufficient to say that we've met in person in 2001, and that it took me until 2004 to be brave enough to order one for myself.

Default Lawsuit Update

Thanks for the post. Although I won't go into too many details here, I can tell you that SCOTT USA is pushing very hard on this. We have offerred to change the font and I personally wrote them a letter in an effort to sit down and meet with them so we can try to talk this out rationally, but they rejected that approach. They are insisting that we change the name of the company. I may post my letter to them so you can read my response, and theirs.

I am also considering asking for support in my efforts through a PR campaign to coincide with the litigation efforts, but to date it seems that some people have called SCOTT's executives and harrassed them (without my knowledge), and this really pissed them off. So, this needs to be thought through carefully and done in a constructive manner. Any ideas would be appreciated.

For our next newsletter, we will likely be announcing a new logo contest, and a public explanation of the suit.

Thanks again for your support.

Scott

Thanks for sharing that with us Scott. Would you prefer suggestions in email to you or in a public forum such as this one?

It is unfortunate that some folks are being too aggressive in 'helping' with the process. That's just not necessary, helpfully or constructive. Honey catches more flies than vinegar....... :?

All the best in keeping your name as the company's name!
