There Are Some Things You Should Not Do When Modding Your Handheld
http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60336
"OK, I know this is completely crazy, but ...... well, i don't care how it looks like, i only care of how it works. "
Well, that is good, because this thing is hideous. 8O He wanted to increase his battery life in his Zire 71, so it now accommodates 4 AA batteries.
That is the finished product by the way. No word if he is planning to put some blue fluorescent lights to help fill in the empty space. Beware when clicking on the link to go to the original thread. The pictures are huge.

I'm obviously not a fan of Palm, but those pictures just make me sad. It looks like it was attacked by a monkey with a butter knife. 8O

AHHHHH GOD, My eyes, my eyes!!! Look at that poor Palm! Iraqi tortue methods are nothing compared to what that guy did to that poor, poor palm.

Geez Louise, that guy may have some clues about making Palms work longer and such, but why the hell doesn't he get IrfanView or XnView or something, knock a few MB off those ridiculously bandwidth-consumptive shots??? I had 35MB of free RAM, only a couple of other apps open, and my Dell just started shutting things down to try and load this one stupid page. Didn't even show me half the images there before it just stopped loading.
Anyway, no. I mean no, really. Just plain ugly and dumb. A cheap 4-AA enclosure from Radio Shack glued to the back and a lead going into a tiny hole in the Zire would have solved this with a whole lot more finesse, and leave the batteries more readily accessible for swapping out. Big honkin screws driven into a PDA? That's just ugly. Of course, I've seen people use duct tape to hold musical instruments together... so bad taste is by no means limited to Palm modders.

Oh, no. Palm or not, no PDA should be abused like that. That's just wrong. I'm all for increasing battery life, but this is crazy. 8O
A note to the editors: if you ever come across someone doing this to a Pocket PC, please don't post about it here.

I guess if I had a Palm device, I wouldn't really care what it looked like, either.
I get concerned about battery life, too, but it's a much more elegant solution (IMO) to build an external battery extender. It's one more little box to carry around, but I've made one that take 4-AA batteries and is really pretty small.

That's got to be one of the funniest pictures I've ever seen (if for no other reason, just for the absurdity)!!
I have a hard time believing that this person actually felt this was the best way to increase his battery life. He MUST have been doing this just for kicks!!
I mean... look at all the problems he's introducing now by having a huge gaping opening across the bottom and sides of his case. It looks like the Grand Canyon in there!!
