Default Freeware to Activate ClearType in Landscape Mode (SE)

http://www.pocketgear.com/software_...il.asp?id=14507

CTitanic dropped us a note to let us know about TwkCL version 1.0. This is a small program that allows you to activate ClearType in Landscape in Windows Mobile 2003 SE. All you have to do is uncompress this file in your \Windows\StartUp folder, Activate ClearType in your Start/Programs/Settings/Display and them do a soft reset. After this ClearType will be activated the next time Landscape is used. This trick is also included in Tweaks2K2 .NET.

This freeware is available at PocketGear, here. Free is good, we like free.

Doesn't ClearType rely on the physical arrangement of the pixels on the LCD screen to anti-alias using the sub-pixels or... whatever? So isn't there a reason it doesn't work in the opposite orientation?

It "works", but is less optimal. Some people think it's too blurry to be useful...

my experience with clear type is that it works great on pocket pc 2002, it is perfect aligned to the vertical lcd color disposition when in landscape ( at least on the ipaq 1910 )
but in windows mobile 2003 ( ipaq 1945 ) cleartype in landscape is not aligned to the pixels, so it gets blurry to read because it is doing cleartype like the 3 colors were side-by-side instead of vertical aligned.

I dont know about SE, but im getting a E805 in a week or so and I want it to work right!

I read ebooks in landscape mode on my iPAQ 2215 with Mobipocket Reader. I always have Cleartype enabled. Though it isn't as sharp as portrait mode, it still seems much better than when I turn it off.

It has nothing to do with the OS, but rather the device. My e805 renders ClearType absolutely perfectly, and it's running WM2003. The 1945 uses a different screen than the 1910, I believe.

P.S. mscdex, PocketGear loads fine for me...

Exactly. This is the main reason why MS disabled it... but many people think that even being not perfect it's better than without it.

The irony is that MS didn't disable it on Tablet PC, where it largely has the same effect when switching orientation. :|
