Default Asus P505 Pocket PC Phone - Smallest PPC Phone Yet?

http://www.msmobilenews.com/?cid=529

This was spotted at Computex Taipei 2004 and looks like it might be the smallest Pocket PC Phone device todate.

Specs include:
 520MHz Processor
Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for PPC PE
 MMS
 Bluetooth
Smart Keeper (automatically backs up existing system status when power is running low)
 GSM/GPRS
 Excel, Word and PDF support
 Java
QVGA LCD Screen with Touch Screen
 MMC/SD Storage Card Support
 2.5mm Audio Jack

No more details are available. Too bad that SD slot isn't SDIO. Personally, I won't own a device that isn't capable of high bandwidth connections like WiFi. :|

Update: There are some links within the thread that indicate it may be SDIO capable.

Woohoo..first post!!....wait, this isn't slashdot. Dough!

Anyhow, This phone has potential. Small size with all the bells and whistles. But I doubt we'll be seeing this in North America anytime soon. I gave up on the dream of north america getting cool devices/phones. Unless I part with a bag full of cash to get one.

I agree about the sdio, and th wifi being important. I did like the faster processor. I did not see here nor on the site the amount of memory it has, do you happen to know Ed? My e355 is starting to act up on me and I wish there was something offered that was closer to this device to choose from. I am tired of the same availability.

OCWorkbench claims it does have SDIO. With that being a function of the chip, I doubt many new devices are not SDIO any more.

CPU ........................Intel Bulverde CPU 416/520Mhz, Infineon E-Gold+
Operating System...Microsoft Windows MobileTM 2003 for PocketPC Phone Edition
Display................... 2.8 65K Transflective TFT, 320 240, Touch Screen
Frequency...............GSM Tri-Band (900/1800/1900Mhz)
GPRS......................Multi-slot Class 10
Camera..................1.3M Pixel CMOS for Still Photo & Video Capturing
Memory..................Flash ROM 64MB / SDRAM 64MB
Communication......Bluetooth, IrDa
Expansion Slots........USB, MMC/SD; SDIO Supported
Battery...................1050mAh (?) Replaceable Li-Ion
Talk/Standby Time...>4hr/ >100hr Operation Time15hr
Side keys 5-way Joystick, VR & Camera Buttons

This device is cool, its not an MPx, but its probably half the cost, which is a good alternative for increasing the market and awareness.

I think if MS really wanted to break the phone PPC market, for consumers at least, they should bundle many more good games. Nothing better for really showing the power of a device

oooh, this is nice !

i have dreamt of a a phone like that ever since i saw the sonyericsson p800.

the combination of near-phone-use with the flip, and the true-pda-experience with flip open is amazing. i'd like to see some comparative photos with the asus next to an mda, mdaII, p900 and t68i or any other miniature phone out there.

so, who got one?

For me size is most important. I think that the lack of a SDIO slot is a big con (booboo) but as far me a phone has to be small. I would carry my trusty iPAQ anyway so at least that helps. Personally I would wait a while to see what else pops up or if they would add a SDIO slot. But if I needed a phone I would buy it if it's small enough.

Does anyone know where we can see pictures of the P505 next to something so we can get an idea of the size?

Yeah I also carry my iPAQ 3800 with me even though I have a phone. Because of that I would like something on the idea of a Treo 600 which I've seen and is pretty small and thin. Too bad it's a Palm. But then again it's really nice.
