Default More Details On Pocket Loox 400

http://firstloox.org/forums/showthr...p?threadid=1468

When Jonathon posted on the Pocket Loox 400 previously, it only got a luke warm reception (to say the least...) from our readers. Now firstloox.org has more information. It seems there will be two versions: the 410 and the 420. The first is the one with the specs Jonathon described, but the latter will add WiFi, a 400 MHz processor and a bundled cradle to the mix. Since it is similar in size, these specs will make it direct competition for the iPAQ 4150. What do you think? Will the 420 be enough for you to be interested in one now?

I think both the Loox 420 and the MiTAC Mio558 (also referenced on the front page) have pretty much all the features I would like in my next Pocket PC - except one!

With WM2003 supporting VGA I just cannot imagine that the next Pocket PC that I fork out for will not have this feature.

Default LooX and others

Here is a question regarding this Pocket PC and others. Although, I will always be a Macintosh Owner/User when it comes to computers, I will have to say that I love the PocketPC. Unless Jobs gets off of his butt and gives us an actual PocketMac (new Newton). With that being said I have a question for everyone that wishes to respond. I am on my second PocketPC this one is the Hitachi G1000 PocketPC Phone Edition (2002) Does anyone know if and when the Loox will be available here in the US and the price? I am looking for Wifi not bluetooth. I was very disapointed in the G1000 because of the lacking features. Although, it still is a pretty cool PDA. I like the size of the ipaq 1940(45) but would like Wifi. I don't need a phone/pda as much as I thought I did. I did check out the Sony Clie T37 (er somthing like it) I think Sony has a hit with this PDA because of its size and all the built in features. The bad with that is its Palm OS and the screen is small. So, The loox with Wifi seems to be a better PDA. Things I am not ahppy about in my previous perchases are:

No upgrade to Mobile Windows 2003 from 2002.
Both Toshiba and Hitachi.

Lack of enough Ram. ( although I do have a 128MB SD card)
lack of Wifi, although SprintPCS is cool.

Your comments or suggestions appreaciated.

I don't really see much in either of these devices that would make me interested in them. There really doesn't seem to be anything to differentiate them from the rest of the crowd.

I agree - lukewarm on the whole thing... Kinda turned off by Fujitsu (still) for taking out the phone edition about way back when....

You said it! I'm amazed at how uninteresting I find everything on the market today and all the announced products for the PPC2003SE cycle so far (like both Loox).

The Loox has NOTHING to make me choose it over an iPaq 4150. Who cares if Loox has the "improved" PPC2003SE while the 4150 has "only" the "old" PPC2003 standard edition when the ONLY real benefit of SE is VGA support which the Loox doesn't have? It's really baffling that Fujitsu is even bothering "update" the Loox line to a new OS whithout designing the hardware to take advantage of the one real advantage of the OS.

I'm starting to worry that PPC2003SE is not worth waiting for. By now there should be some rumors or announcements of something small with VGA if there was going to be one... It's like I might as well just make up my mind today to either live with the brick-size of the Toshiba e800 and get the VGA I want, or live with the QVGA of my iPaq 1910 and keep the "pocketable" form-factor. It looks like no one is coming forward with both.

Serious bummer...

Of course if I'm deciding to live with a "brick" for the VGA, I might as well get the Sharp Linux SL-5600... Hum...

Anyone have the SL-5600???

The iPaq 41XX series is the same form factor as the 19XX, and includes both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It's available today and might meet your needs.

The Fujitsu PPC's have not been widely distributed in the US. I don't know of their plans for this new line, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for one of these mediocre sounding machines.

My answer to the "why" question would be: size and price.
