Default Intrinsyc Showcases Intel PXA27x Reference Platform

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.a...?contentid=2633

"Just after Intel's announcement of its new XScale PXA27x mobile processor family, Intrinsyc Software International announced its mobile device reference platform. They are being showcased by Intrinsyc and Intel in a new development platform, the Intel 2700G multimedia accelerator reference system. Codenamed Carbonado, this platform is targeted at device manufacturers building next generation wireless PDAs, and is designed to assist these companies with hardware and software development, integration and testing."

We've posted on Intrinsyc before; their reference platforms are not for the mass market, but are useful for development purposes and to showcase new technologies. I have to say, though, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one to play with.

The Intrinsyc PDA was the first Pocket PC* with a VGA screen. The original was released about 18 - 24 months ago but nobody I know of bought one despite it's specs. Probably because it was about US$2500. The model I was looking at was the first with the PXA255 processor and a built in camera, wifi & bluetooth. (GPRS option too)

Devices are only just now catching up.

*It can also run Window CE.NET 4.2 and Linux.

They're always ugly. Mainly because the marketing department has nothing to do with them . They are just showing off what the engineers could do, and making life easier by then doing it all for them 8)

I have been seeing lots regarding the PXA27X and have to say YUMMY! Between 300 and 600 clock speed? Speedstep technology makes it to PDA's? YES!

This company makes lots of interesting products. I first heard of them when the CerfCube, a computer in a 3" cube, came out. iirc all their products are super-tiny.

I'm certainly glad this is just a reference platform!

The d-pad is on the wrong side, the buttons are in an awful layout, and the device just looks cheap.

Actually, I kinda like the layout and the look of the unit. I really liked where the d-pad is located!

Funny how tastes differ huh?

According to the CES 2004 keynote by Intel CEO, Dell has signed up for using this reference platform as the basis for the next Axim.

http://www.intrinsyc.com/intel_news.html

Fast forward 40 mins into the presentation..talks about mobile devices, this reference platform, Personal media player, and also "Florence" the new Intel Laptop reference. Samsung's media player is cool. Much better than the Creative one which has been highly promoted on all sites.
