Default FTP for PPC: W?BIC!

http://www.pocketnow.com/index.php?...=reviews&id=355

"ShareIt FTP, as the name implies, is a fully functional FTP server that runs on your Pocket PC. It allows you to log onto your Pocket PCs file system from any FTP-enabled browser or dedicated FTP program through a network connection. Assuming you've assigned the appropriate permissions, you can transfer, rename, and even delete files. With the low cost of a Pocket PC compared to a laptop or desktop system, you can allocate a Pocket PC for a small FTP server, either permanently or temporarily, with greater return on investment."

Pocketnow has posted a review of this intriguing piece of software, which really pays homage to the "Why? Because I can!" (W?BIC!) philosophy. In addition to being just plain neat, it also has a number of practical applications that would be useful for a consultant or teacher.

Is this something you'd find useful?

Not for 70 bucks :-(

I'm going to stick with http://homepage3.nifty.com/UK-taniya...ls/FtpSvr.html significantly less features (authentication for one) but also significantly cheaper :-) Use it all the time when I'm without ActiveSync.

Yes this seems like a W?BIC program. I don't think I'd ever use this. FTP client, yes I have used them, but a FTP server, just don't see the use of it at all.

$70? No way.

As Clatch04 pointed out, there's always FtpSrv (which also works on CE 2.11, BTW). If I were going to spend that sort of money on software, I'd go for Textmakerthat at least seems worth its price. And if you feel like going overboard and only want to serve files, there's a version of Apache available for CE devices.

Small ftp servers aren't just a w?bic toy. They're a great tool to upgrade network hardware like Cisco switches at a site that doesn't have an ftp or tftp server available. www.cam.com and www.vieka.com have had commercial ftp and tftp servers available for windows ce for years.

Or: the ShareIT FTP should be a SSL FTP server and include a SSL Certificate for that price!

With that price, I don't expect we'll see any warez/mp3z/crackz servers running off of a ipaqz anytime soon.
