PPCTechs Prototypes iPAQ 2210 Flip Lid
Dave over at Pocket PC Passion wrote in with pictures of Pocket PC Techs' prototype iPAQ 2210 flip lid. It would hinge using the holes in their side grip replacements. The current prototype looks like a clear cover, leaving the buttons open for manipulation.
Looks fantastic for a first cut! There are more pictures at the above link. What do you guys think?

Yes! Finally, a flip! I hope they will have a choice of colors. Although the clear would be cool (using the 2215 while the flip is closed), I think that black would look awesome (matching the side grips)...

I think this is a great idea. PPCTechs are a really innovative company.
However, the 2200 series is lagging behind and I wonder if HP plans to offer an updated version at some point?
The form factor is great for a two expansion slot device, if only it had more RAM, WiFi and VGA. It would be a fantastic PPC.
It would be sad if HP were to go back to SD only for the Ipaqs. Their new small models are nice, but anyone that is serious about these things needs more storage than one SD card can economically provide.

The screws seem like they protrude a little too much, probably will be fixed in the release version. Although the clear cover looks cool, I'm concerned about the plastic cover rubbing against the ipaq. I don't want any paint to be scraped off by using this cover. If it's an opaque cover, then a felt pad could be hidden under it.

..or maybe part of the design. It would also make the flip ~sound~ better. I'd much rather hear a muted thump than a loud clack when flipping the cover closed.

I sure would miss the pleasure of pulling the CF card from my camera, dropping it into my 2215, and using Imageer to view my photos on a screen 350-400% larger than my camera's.
but... off topic... shuttin' up now.

Or make covers to match all the colors of PPCTech's grips. I have really enjoyed my new grips (blue). They have really have given my 2215 a whole new look & feel. Like having a new PPC! except this new one has that scratch on the screen in the same place as the old one...

The lid looks great! Would it be possible for them to make one for the 19xx series? I understand that it hinges on the grips, but maybe there is some way that it could be done for the 19xx ipaqs too :?:

It looks OK, not as good as I expect. I guess these guys should check below designning. Using screw to fix the flip cover looks bad.
