Are You A Meeple People?
"Have you always wondered which contacts you have in common with others? Find out with Meeple! Meeple matches phone numbers in your contact list with someone else's and shows both of you the results. Just line up the Irda ports of your PDA and select 'Match'. Contacts you both carry in your contact list are shown on both screens."
This is a really unique bit of software and it reminds me of that Will Smith movie, "Six Degrees of Separation." Basically, you and another person use this software to find out which friendships you have in common. And, if the other person doesn't have Meeple already installed, you can beam the application to him/her via infrared.
You can get a free trial version or full version for $9.95 at Handango.
I guess this could be a good conversation-starter or icebreaker, but would you really use this very often?

Infra Red! I remember that... it was an old technology we used in the last century.
Imagine having to actually physically align the devices. :wink:
A Bluetooth version would be more interesting...

I don't mean to be a party-pooper, but can you say "Retarded"?
Instructions:
First, find someone who has a PPC and has it on them. If they don't, ask them to run out to their car or drive home and get it.
Second, find out if they have this software and if they don't, spend time finding out if they'll let you beam it to them and then sit there in awkward silence while you wait for them to set it up. If they ask you what the software is before letting you beam it to them, spend more time explaining what it is and what a pathetic loser you are and why you need to do this and that they should still let you beam it to them anyway.
Third, providing all of the previous events have gone to plan, align your ports. Discover you both don't have anyone in common in your contacts lists afterall. Realize immediately afterwards that you could have just simply asked the other person if they knew so-and-so - you know, kinda like normal people do.
Fourth, stare at each other for a few moments in awkward silence because you're a total dork and feel even stupider for convincing the other person they should participate in this. Walk away.

By the way, I do wish the authors all the success they crave... I'm just sharing my personal opinion, and maybe a few laughs...

I could see someone using this in chat rooms or online communities (such as Pocket PC Thoughts), but not really face-to-face. It could be interesting if it extended beyond two people also. Building a web of "who-knows-who" instead of just "one degree of seperation". Of course a lot of people like their anonymity online so it would propbably miss a lot.

Great post! One problem I've noticed is that PDAs somehow challenge developers to write software just because they can. Not because there's any need for it, but because it can be done. What a shame. This reminds me of the Pocket PC barbecue timer.
