Motorola A630 Handset With Flip Open Keyboard - Possibly a Pocket PC Phone Edition?
"... a Motorola handset has been previewed which is based upon the Windows Mobile 2003 platform. The phone incorporates a camera, external display, and external keypad - and flips open horizontally to reveal a keyboard (in a manner very reminiscent of a Nokia Communicator)."
Mike Temporale posted on this earlier today at Smartphone Thoughts, but a little birdie told me that this might in fact be a Pocket PC Phone Edition device rather than a Smartphone as most have assumed. Notice they say "Windows Mobile 2003 platform" and not "Smartphone". Also, with the rumoured landscape support coming soon, this just might be a Pocket PC after all. If so, I'm excited, because it's something different!

WOW!
Now this looks like something that would cause me to consolidate my T68i and 3870, provided it has BT support. The screen, however, looks a tad small. Thumboard with landscape orientation is a nice surprise. Now, can I access my PPC contacts to dial when the phone is closed?

This is different for a ppc phone and for a ppc device in general. It is not different in the sense that the clam shell device has been around for a while. As an example the Revo Plus, and the NOkia 9290.
It is different if Motorola actually goes through with this device and used the MS OS.

For some reason I can't see it with windows mobile but rather the smartphone os. Are they adding landscape support to the smartphone os? Anyways, this could definitely draw some people away from ppc due to the keyboard and landscape screen. I think it is a sweet looking device.

I don't see how one could use a stylus. I may be the only one, but I like to "write" on my PPC. With this design it would be difficult to use since it does not lay flat.

Is this something that will compete with T-Mobile's Sidekick as well?
