Newest PocketMVP Build Supports Full Screen Video
"PocketMVP has reach a milestone among all PocketPC's. With this new v0.8.011804 release PocketMVP now supports normally encoded FULL SCREEN VIDEOS!! We have tested 800kbit DivX / 24fps at 640X252 with 64bit audio and NO drops! Is there a catch... lol... there always is. Currently this is only supported with the new ATI 3200 interface on the G1000 or the E80x. But think about it.... no more re-encoding is needed! There are tons of other fixes that you can read in the changelog."
The newest version can be downloaded from the link above or from the regular PocketMVP site. I'm tempted to try the 640x252 video on an e805 running at 480x640...

Wow. Very impressive. Typically I encode (my own DVDs) at ~1000 kbps DivX for video and ~160 kbps for audio (MP3). I have not bothered encoding for PPC since I would just watch the result file on my iBook but the thought of not needing to do a separating encoding is certainly very interesting technically speaking.
Although, I would need a storage media that is > 1 GB (that I can afford) to hold that resulting DivX file....

Yet another reason the e805 is the best PPC by far. 8)

Why WOULDN'T you reencode though? I mean yeah it's nice and all, but lets see, you can reencode so it only takes 200 MB for a full movie with no noticable difference, or you can put an 800MB movie on there.. hmm..
Unless you have the 1GB SanDisk SD (or similar sized CF) posted earlier it's not much use.
Yeah, you can hook up USB hard drives. That's not the most portable solution though. By that point you might as well buy one of those 20 GB multimedia jukebox things.
IMO of course.
It's cool, but I'm still gonna reencode anyways..

Think outside the box. Later this year or early next year we'll likely have a PPC with an 800MHz processor and built-in 4GB hard drive.
Also, 2-4 GB CF cards are dropping in price fast. Aren't you glad the best video player is going to be ready for the future. We should all thank the e805 for pushing the envelope. Better yet, we should all thank Toshiba.

Let's not turn this into a device war...
Some posts were split off and moved here...
Thanks,

Hey since this post is up here... I have been having some problems with my audio being out of sync when using virtualDub... does anyone have a solution...? I did read about the problem somewhere but can not find the solution...
And I have searched both Corecodec and PocketMayo...

Try saving the audio file as a wav and then re-encode it as MP3. Check out the multimedia forum - someone had almost exactly the same question a few weeks ago. Good luck!
