Default iPAQ 63xx confirmed by Gartner at CES

http://geek.com/news/geeknews/2004J...40115023454.htm

"I attended a couple of the presentations at CES (see my coverage), and one that only had about 30 people in it was called "Pocketable Devices: Finding the Perfect One." The speaker was Todd Kort from Gartner Dataquest, and he primarily talked about PDAs and smartphones. He presented several slides that showed different devices on different scales, i.e., consumer vs. enterprise. One device that piqued my interest was when he showed a scatter plot of current and soon to be released devices, and the iPAQ 63xx was on there. He stated matter-of-factly that the iPAQ 63xx would have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPRS integrated in one device. While he didn't give a release date it sounds like this device is definitely around the corner, and may no longer be just a rumor."

Default Price drop?

Will the 6300 release lower the price on the 4100?

I suppose people should scour the FCC postings.

Highly doubtful. I'm guessing the 6300 series will be their elite line, in the $600-$700 range. After all, it's a phone too...

I bet that hp will refresh their whole line for the launch of wm2004. (as they did with the wm2003 launch) A new 19xx, a new 2xxx or 4xxx, and a new 5xxx unit along with the 6300. They will have to produce a new 19xx to for the budget minded customers. The new 5xxx will be needed for businesses with all of the old accessories, and a new 2xxx or 4xxx for the mid priced market. The 5xxx will need vga and 500-600mhz or more, expansion packs, along with a hard drive and wifi & bt, @ $600. The new mid priced model will need a keyboard on one model, vga, and over 400mhz plus wifi & BT, @$350-$450. The new budget unit will need either wifi or BT, qvga, and a 400mhz processor @$250-$329. The 63xx will be in its own line above the 5xxx, but not a replacement, @$650+ before carrier rebates. (as competition for smartphones, treo600, and ppc phone edt.) This will ensure hp's further success.

Thats what i think. (there is no confirmed truth to my statements)

I'm betting more along the $800-$1100 range, sans contract.

I gotta say this device would get me to switch off my current wireless provider, at least for data, if it does well in other evaluations. Verrrry interesting guys...

I am wondering what the final product will look like. Hopefully it is on the smaller side and a 3.8 screen.
GSM/GPRS, BT, WiFi- is a good idea.
I can only imagine how expensive it will be. The Tungsten W is not priced to bad depending on where you go and is with AT&T. It would be nice to see the 6xxx series in a very competitive price range with the Tungsten W.
I would personally like to see more than just those aditions in this model, but some major improvements.
