Pocket Phojo 2.5
Idruna Software has released an update to their photojournalist software, Pocket Phojo. This software is designed to allow photojournalists to get photos back to base as rapidly and conveniently as possible. While many photojournalists use laptops to edit their shoots and send them to a server, Pocket Phojo enables you to do this on your Pocket PC using the wide range of connection options Pocket PCs have. Since the photographic gear of a photojournalist usually has considerable weight in itself, moving from laptop to Pocket PC for these tasks might be very welcome. New in version 2.5 are many features, among which support for Windows Mobile 2003, performance improvements, less memory requirements (leaving that memory to work on the large files of the pro DSLRs), and better support of FTP and e-mail.
"Pocket Phojo 2.5 is a free upgrade for existing customers, who will receive an email with a link to the download. New customers can purchase Pocket Phojo for only $489 ($389 for freelancers until Jan 1st), or for convenience, complete solutions including a preconfigured and tested HP iPAQ Pocket PC and all necessary accessories start at only $897 plus shipping."

It's not like Phojo is the most expensive Pocket PC app in the world, $489 is pretty cheap compared to the software one of my customers in Afghanistan was evaluating  I just thought people might be interested in knowing that many of the photos they see might just have been processed and transmitted via a Pocket PC, specifically many sports games in NY, the last flight of Concorde, and the stabbing of the Swedish Foreign Minister. If you read The Washington Post, Newsday, The San Antonio Express News, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Philadelphia Enquirer, Miami Herald, Time Magazine, LA Times, The Sun, The Daily Mail, Verdens Gang, Aften Posten, you might also see some pics that have been Phojo'd

Err - this is a commercial product with more limited uptake than Photoshop - Photoshop is intended for a wide range of users - and if you are someone who wants/needs to travel light - what other options are there that do the job?
Do you baulk at paying lap-top prices for Pocket PC's? (Bet you dont)
Value is a subjective thing - and this isnt a shareware app.

The strange thing is that as a digital media nut, I'd love to use Phojo to review my images, and post them to my private family website. I'm the only one in my family that is very mobile, and when I stay away for a few days, I take my laptop to do that. I'd love to do this on a Pocket PC, but still I wouldn't buy Phojo, since I can't justify this expense.
I don't have problems with that though, since I know this program isn't written with my type of use in mind. This is not targeted at us hobbyists, but at photojournalists, who need a working and reliable way to do their work. For the same reason they buy more expensive cameras then I do, they buy more expensive software. Simply because it's a job expense, whereas for me it is only playing.

I'm with Marlof on this one. I may be away from home a lot soon and I'm a hobbyist and want to upload pics to my web site whilst away from home using a combination of PDA and mobile phone.
I have discovered that the in built apps on my iPAQ 2210 include adjustments for contrast, brightness and have a crop feature. It would be useful to have a fuller feature set though.
Can anyone recommend anything a bit cheaper :lol: for photo editing of digital piccies. I did post in the Multimedia Forum some time ago but I'm not sure that many folk browse that forum as the general ones

This is not the average consumer photo album application. It is meant to be used professionally in the field by journalists/photographers.
I've used Phojo the last year when travelling and it is an amazing product.
