Default How Did The MSN Messenger Upgrade Go On Your Pocket PC?

As most of you know that use MSN Messenger, Microsoft had a forced upgrade a few days ago to get everyone on a minimum client level to support new security features. On October 7, Microsoft released two MSN Messenger updates for their handhelds, one for Pocket PC 2002 and one for Pocket PC 2003 devices. If you haven't upgraded yet, you should head over to the Windows Mobile site and get the upgrade that is right for your device.

Since this update was released, I've seen some reports of problems in a few cases and I'd like to see how wide spread it is and if we can find some commonality in those that aren't able to log in after the upgrade has been completed. For those with problems, please reply in this thread with your device type, the version of Pocket PC you have (2002 or 2003) and what the problem was. I am assuming that you verified you downloaded the correct update and did a soft reset after the install was complete.

I downloaded and installed the required upgrade and it all went smootly  No problems whatsoever... MSN messenger runs and works exactly how it used to before the upgrade except without the annoying upgrade messages.

So for all those who run the same device:
Toshiba e310 with MSN messenger in ROM and the upgrade in RAM
I connect to the internet using my mobile GPRS service...

What kind of problems are people having out of interest? I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't a few bugs being microsoft and all...

Default the cowboy

I upgraded my e200 and it went smoothly. I even donned my cowboy hat and didn't soft reset the machine.

I can't get messenger to connect over GPRS via T-Mobile on two different devices (PPCPE 2003 & PPC 2003 w/ bluetooth) but have no problem via wifi or pass-thru.

I'm assuming my issue is with T-Mobile, not the upgrade.

I get an error everytime I try to upgrade.

"Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product MSN Messenger Update for Windows Mobile 203 based Pocket PC's. The Windows Installer cannot continue."

Anyone else get this same error?

I get on with T-Mobile with no problems. I do have their VPN account though. I don't use MSN with VPN but I understand their VPN enabled account (internet3.voicestream.com) has more capacity than the non-VPN enabled account, so that may be the issue.

The file is 5Mb from Microsoft. How much RAM does it take up on the device? Man, first the Reader update that uses my precious RAM and now this.

227Kb...

It's incredible... I'm wondering where the rest 4773Kb went!?

But I'm STILL waiting for the upgrade for my MS SmartPhone, I've installed Agile Messenger and it works, but it's just not as good as the original
