Toshiba E400 Listed on eCost for $290.28 USD
A Pocket PC Thoughts reader discovered this new Toshiba Pocket PC on eCost, but the details are very thin:
"E400 PXA261/300MHZ/64MB/16MB/PPC 2003"
Xscale PXA261? Interesting. 16 MB must be the ROM, which is "Pocket PC Professional" not "Premium" - which means it's missing some goodies from ROM. The picture looks cool though - I like the way this device is styled. But unless this thing is very small, I have a hard time seeing it be competitive with the iPAQ 1935 and Dell Axim X3. What do you think?

Seriously, it does look very tempting, but I don't feel comfortable buying a product that will dead-end in another 18+ months.

mmm, it doesnt have much info on that website, I wonder why. I wonder why you would put a pda up for sale and not list ALL the specs. I wouldnt by it with that little bit of information. Of course I am not the only one who has thought of this, but if you want to be competitive in the ppc market, then look at what hp is doing and to the LEAST match it

Seems to me like Toshiba is about to exit the Pocket PC industry. That device seems to be out of it's league, and might be dead in the water long before it hits the store shelves. :|

Why would I want to purchase another Toshiba product when the one I have in my pocket is begging to be replaced with a better brand!
I must say I'm glad to see the X3 has a 64 Mb option w/o WiFi, but the price needs to go down a bit before I get one....

Toshiba -- NOT!
I'd have to agree, Toshiba did not endear themselves to me with the 740 and I'm not looking for another long term relationship with them again. EVER!

I'm guessing that the style is to match that of their higher end satellite laptops. While I'd like to buy one to match my Satellite (sorry, I'm all about asthetics), I don't think I'll be buying another Toshiba PDA until they've proven that they're back on track with customer service (IE they release upgrades for these new devices when they become of a previous generation).

I have to say to this just one word: ..... "DITTO!!!"
They need to hurt on this one so they realize they made a big error with how they handled the e740.
