XDA II Passes FCC Approval
The HTC Himalaya, better known as the XDA II in Europe, has now passed FCC approval. Let's hope this motivates one or more carriers to sell the device, as it may potentially be the best upcoming Pocket PC Phone. Here's a link to the FCC docs -- as always, lots of interesting tidbits -- among others, pictures of the VGA + CF backpack!
I hope that's a trick of the angle or lighting, because that looks fat... and so does the CF slot. 8O Anyone else want to hunt through the docs and find interesting information?

I don't imagine that it'll take long for our friend Gorge to come out with an XDA II version of the Silver Slider for that.

This is the first time we see pictures of the backpack & VGA
But the pictures are not very clear. If they can build a great product why can�t they take good pictures of it!

I dug through all of the PDFs at the site. No startling revelations - nice to see photos of the CF backpack. And the VGA cable (with composite "RCA" video out). It's not clear in the photos what the VGA cable connects to - the regular sync connector, or a special connector on the backpack. It could be that the backpack isn't even required for VGA/composite out.
I'm pleased at the implications of the FCC approving this device. There are two variants on their site - the PH10A, which looks like the T-Mobile XDA with black accents, and the PH10B, with an all-silver face, like the O2 version. Perhaps this means that both T-Mobile and AT&T will carry the Himalaya.
I can't wait for this to be available!

No wonder they call it a backpack. Does it come with shoulder straps?
In all seriousness, I think that photo may be scaled incorrectly. The FCC did the same thing with photos of the Zodiac, except they stretched it. Here, it looks like they may have rescaled things so as to make it look too thick.

No scale or stretch, it's called perspective and close-up proportion distortion (but then again English is not my native tongue either :wink: ; but what I mean it's a visual effect, not computerized image modifications)
Anyway, if I analyse those pics correctly, the CF slot strangely opens up downwards 8O !!.
Here's hoping the cards are well secured in the slot, I'd hate to loose all my cards that way !!
third, it looks like all it takes to connect to a VGA display is the special cable and that it plugs into the sync connector?!

Yes, the CF slot on the backpack opens downwards. Shouldn't be an issue, as all of my CF cards have always fit very snugly in the slots of my Pocket PCs.
The connection for the VGA cable is on the backpack, meaning you can't just plug the VGA cable into the sync connector. Would have been great if you could, but I guess there's additional hardware in the backpack that enables VGA out.
