GS Magicstore 1" 4.8GB Type II CompactFlash HDD
According to this brief blurb over at Digital Photography Review, come November we'll see a 4.8 GB version of this hard drive-based media. I still prefer the near-indestructible nature of Flash-based media, but 4.8 GB? And 7-8 GB by 2004? Assuming the price point is attractive, this will shake up the removable media world...

What I find intersting about this is the almost consistant doubling of capacity each year.
4.8GB now
8GB in a year
16-20GB the year after that.
If these can significantly undercut solid state media and keep the power consumption within the same ballpark it should find a place in the market.
Plus I've been considering getting a TypeII CF card just to fill in that ugly 3mm gap that TypeIs leave in my iPAQ!
