Default SOTI Pocket Controller Professional 4.02 Reviewed by infoSync World

http://www.infosyncworld.com/reviews/n/4100.html

"Sometimes ActiveSync just isn't enough: Pocket Controller lets users get down and dirty with their handhelds from the comfort of their keyboards. SOTI's Pocket Controller has long been one of the most important weapons in a reviewer's arsenal: fundamentally, it allows one's Pocket PC to be controlled from the desktop PC, which enables quick text input and the taking of screenshots. However, this application offers a lot more than screen capture; in fact, it's an essential tool for enterprises, developers and individuals alike..."

The Pocket PC "Power Toys" includes a free application that works similarly to SOTI's application.

I gave up on SOTI when they wanted to charge full price for an "upgrade." The free Power Toy works fine for my needs.

Whilst it may work for you - there is a big difference in the functionality. I am sure that SW developers for the PPC find SOTI is essential - for me - just a user it is a brilliant tool. Whilst the power toy may work similarly in PRINCIPLE, in that it displays the PPC screen on the computer and allows you to interact with it and zoom (x1, x2, x3). If does not do many of the things that Pocket Controller does:

No view in skin.
No rotation to landscape.
No screen capture.
No macros.
No print support.
No integration with clipboard on PC
No app buttons - access only through start menu/today plug ins.
Powertoy has to be manually activated on PC - Pocket Controller allows automatic start up when dockied.
No system info.
No task manager.
No remote DOS box.
No video capability.
Its connection speed is slooowwwwer - no turbo mode. Activate Mail on Pocket Toy - both SOTI and PPC open with minimal delay - Power toy lagging behind, opens about a second after!

And the enterprise edition is far away when you talk about possibilities. It has a remote registry viewer/editor, support for multiple devices (it has a sort of database of devices), screen capture in gif, bmp or jpeg, ...

I reviewed the enterprise version for another website and... wow, comparing it to the MS powertoy is like comparing day end night .
