Default World Class Communications with 3rd Class Tools

http://www.cewindows.net/commentary...ldclasscomm.htm

Chris De Herrera has written a short column about communications on the Pocket PC, and some of the things he'd like to see added in the future. What would you like to see added in this regard?

"Its amazing to me all the different ways I can communicate with my Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC! This article covers the disparity between the breadth of methods you can communicate with your Pocket PC and another computer compared to the tools available to you to mange the connection right out of the box. Also, I've included my thoughts on an ideal tool to diagnose connectivity problems that I would like to see in the future..."

One thing to note is that several of the tools that are missing out of the box are available in the form of CMD (a Microsoft product) in conjunction with NetTools. But vxUtil is a much nicer package.

Default Yes

And they don't even have a way for the user to force the device to grab a new DHCP address. Thanks to ceipconfig and vxUtil, I get that and more. I would also like to see a BASIC terminal application. A usb to serial cable (and a device with USB host abilities) and a terminal program would even let you use that to log into switches with out needing a laptop! :alfdance:

Default Eventually

Eventually in the future, all these acronyms will be invisible to the end-user (but not the administrator of course). That's when we'll know that the technology is reaching prime-time.

When you call someone on with your cell phone or land phone, you just pick it up and dial their number. You don't worry about whether your phone is CDMA or GSM, or the type of copper wires in your house, etc.

Although that doesn't mean cell phones are any more reliable...but at least they're brainless.
