I wish publishers would stop trying to turn a profit with every bit of technology. They need to start looking at it as a value added type thing.

I would love the option to buy the book and have the option to pay $2-3 extra for an ebook companion.

I can't get with paying full-price and never actually owning anything tangible. And the DRM thing is bull. Books are meant to be passed around.

I'm in the military and everytime I've deployed I've had access to thousands of donated books. The publisher doesn't get paid from those non sales. Often I take one or two read it and I'll pass it along to my father, another missed sale. So why the big fuss over protecting ebooks?

Just give them away with the hardcopy.

The difference between ebooks, and paper books, when shared, is all in the math......when you are deployed you can share thousands of books ONE at a time. With non-encrypted ebooks you can share one book THOUSANDS of time. Quite a difference, don't you think? Especially if you consider sharing thoudsands of books thousands of times. I'm not sure if I was an author or a publisher I would care much for that senerio. It simply comes down to that. With a single paper copy you just don't have the ability to effect the sales of a book in a reasonable amount of time. With unprotected ebooks you can file share with millions of others in seconds.

Security I think is the biggest hurtle that needs to be crossed before we see authors, and publishers really get behind ebooks.

Good going with the ebook forum Jason!

Thanks, Jason. Ebooks (quite unexpectedly) have become the killer app for me.

Point taken  Didn't think of it that way... The joys of conversation, eh While I enjoy the ebooks I just see no way to come up with fair compensation for all. Very difficult nut to crack.
