Airgo Building New WLAN Technology
In case the bevy of new Wi-Fi standards wasn't enough for you last week, a "secretive" Silicon Valley startup has developed new wireless LAN technologies. Their press release claims that:
"Airgo's chipset establishes a new frontier for wireless performance and launches the next generation of Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). Using Airgos unique multiple antenna system, the AGN100 extends existing Wi-Fi rates to 108 Mbps per channel while remaining compatible with all common Wi-Fi standards. In head-to-head testing, the AGN100 demonstrated range that was two to six times that of competing WLAN chipsets, resulting in an order-of-magnitude increase in the area covered by each access point."
Whoa. 8O I can't help but think this is PR hype, but if this is anywhere near true, it might prove to be an interesting step forward. They're claiming a new "multi-antenna" transmission/reception technology as the basis for such improvements.

Putting on my sceptics hat.
To me, this just sounds like a multiple WiFi PHY architecture- hook up two 802.11g interfaces to your device and you theoretically get around 110Mb/s
Show me a datasheet for the chip, and I will believe- but until then this is all PR.
