SCOTTeVEST "The Greatest Baseball Cap Ever!" Review
Are you in the market for a new hat? Tired of your earbuds falling out? Ready for another great SCOTTeVEST product? Well then, look no further. Check out my review of SCOTTeVEST's "The Greatest Baseball Cap Ever!"..
SCOTTeVEST's "The Greatest Baseball Cap Ever!" is a great choice if you're looking for a stylish, technology-enabled hat. It's lightweight, has some nifty hidden pockets, and is very comfortable.
So, it's a Hat, Right? "The Greatest Baseball Cap Ever" is, for all intents and purposes, a hat. It comes in stone washed gray and stone washed blue. The mesh lining fabric is made of DuPont CoolMax, which wicks sweat away from your head and keeps you cool. It really works too. The back closure is a clip that you can adjust to fit your head. The hat is designed to accommodate a ponytail (my wife assures me that it does). It also features eyelets near the top for ventilation.
Figure 1: The back of the hat. It features an easy to connect clasp.
The hat sports a SCOTTeVEST logo on the front, and a tagline on the back. The logos look good but I doubt that anyone will recognize them from a distance. They are small enough that they blend in with the hat. The hat looks great, but the color is a bit hard to capture on film. The model I got is the stone washed gray version. It's a darkish gray which changes in the light.
Figure 2: A shot of the hat in action. (No big head jokes, please).
What about the Technology? As with all SCOTTeVEST products, this hat is truly a 21st century product. If you use earbud headphones while exercising, they'll stay in place with the built-in, patent-pending, earbud loops. All you have to do is put your earbud wires through the loop and around your ears. The hat keeps them from falling if they come out of your ears.
Figure 2: A closeup of the earbud loops. The hat will keep them in place during exercise.
When I first put on the hat, the loops stuck out and they looked a little dorky. I quickly learned to tuck them in when putting the hat on. But when using them with earbuds, they work great. They definitely hold them in when you need them.
Secret Compartments The other features that make this such a nice hat are the secret compartments. There is one on the side and one under the brim of the hat. The side pocket is big enough to hold a key or business card. But, since the inside of the pocket is the lining of the hat, I would not suggest using it for something that is bulky or not sweat-resistant. The side pocket has a zipper to open and close it. The pull on the zipper hangs out a bit and looks a little silly to me, but no one else seems to notice it.
Figure 3: The side compartment.
I feel like a little kid again with the pockets. It's like those combo flashlight, radio, compass, safe, clock things I lusted after when I was 12. The more secret compartments and gadgets the better. Now those are the sorts of things I look for in gadgets. Hmmm... I'm starting to see a trend.
Figure 4: The under-the-brim compartment.
The side compartment is nice but what I really like is the brim compartment. It adds a little bulk to the brim but is very useful. It closes with Velcro so there's no pull to be concerned with. I've been using it to hold the "business cards" that are included with the hat. They are intended for you to hand out to people asking about your hat (nice touch).
Gotchas
- The zipper pull on the side compartment hangs down a bit too far.
- I'm not sure if I have a big head, but... the hat feels a bit small to me. But that's a personal preference.
Where To Buy "The Greatest Baseball Cap Ever!" is available for purchase from SCOTTeVEST for $19.95.
Conclusions SCOTTeVEST's "The Greatest Baseball Cap Ever!" is another nice product from SCOTTeVEST that lets you use technology without looking like a geek.

Slow News Day?
You know it's a slow PocketPC news day when PPCT is talking about hats and Brighthand has rehashed their display technology article on the front page (again).
(actually, the hat is kinda neat, but I'm forbidden from wearing them by my fiancee, probably for the best)

Hmm, I like the idea but wish I didn't have to wear their Logo on my head. I'd prefer a choice of plain, or of something else -- sports or travel related. Why should I have to wear an advertisement for them, when I've already paid for the product?

I posted to their live help 4 hours ago and they still have not replied. I do remember seeing this on their website a month or so ago. They had pictures and stuff, it was just not for sale yet. Now Gone!

Answers from SCOTTeVEST
Thanks so much for the post! Sorry for late response. Today was our corporate outing. I wanted to thank everyone for all the hard work. We should have posted something on the site. Sorry. We left the office at 12:30 CST to go sailing and watch the rehersal for the Air Show here in Chicago.
I will try to answer some of your questions.
First off, the product is expected the week of August 25th, but we expect to pre-sell them beginning on Monday, when we launch our new and improved website, which is going to be very cool. In fact, please feel free to visit over the weekend as we expect to be testing it. We will be introducting a new line of clothes too, and a great game. I can't say much more, but I think you will really like it.
If you want to pre-order one, you can do so by visiting this "secret" link: http://www.scottevest.com/Merchant2/...t_Code=TEC-Hat. Admittedly, no information is shown there, but the review is accurate, and there will be more information later this weekend.
As for logos, we can offer you one without the SeV logo in front. Just indicate that in the comments. The logo is really subtle and looks great, however. It is not uncommon for clothing companies to sell things with their logo, e.g. Nike.
I really appreciate the word of mouth and will try to answer any of your questions posted here, or if you prefer to email me directly send to [email protected].
Thanks again. Did I leave any questions unanswered?
Scott

Scott, thanks for posting. What about the logo on the back - can it be left off? It bothers me more than the one on the front. Any chance of PPCT discount code?
PS - The secret link does not work.
