The application writes directly in mp3 format, and support direct write to SD/CF cards ? 8O wow.

It seems fairly solid. I recorded a 20 minute conversation today no problem at all.
The implications are scary 8O

Anyone know how this compares to PoccoSoft's ProTone 2.0? I know that ProTone doesn't record direct to external memory unless you have a fast media type. It will check for you, and you may be able to if you're recording voice, which is low-bandwidth, but it is kind of a pain to be restricted to internal memory and have to split up long-duration recordings.

I've been looking for a suitable application for recording meetings. It's got to be able to write to external memory and have good sample rate for quality, hence I'm not too worried about bandwidth.

However, the most important feature, and one I've not yet found in any voice recorder, is to be able to place bookmarks/comments while still recording - this would then enable me to skip to these points in the recording at a later date when doing a transcription or for recall of important comments made at the meeting.

Anyone able to point me in the right direction, please?

Thanks,
(First post in Thoughts so be gentle with me)

I find the SoundExplorer pretty cool. It runs under WM2003 flawlessly, unlike other MP3 recorders. (NoteM is bound to crash and has audio stuttering problems especially with SD cards; Resco Audio Recorder 2.0 hangs on WM2003 without recording anything)

Unfortunately, it (still) doesn't support MP3 recording with the sampling frequency of 22/44 kHz, but this may change in the near future. See my review of the mp3 recorders available at http://195.111.1.45/pda/mp3rec.htm

That's what SoundExplorer provides since version 2.5 for .wav recording. Yet the 3.0 beta doesn't allow tagging in mp3 recording - it will be available in 3.0 alpha which is likely to come by next weekend.

Excuse me, what do you mean by that?

Nikon - thank you for including SE into the review.
