Default Spectec SD Digital Camera Review

http://translate.google.com/transla...off&prev=%2Flan

The French Pocket PC Site, Ultimate Pocket.com, has completed a review of an SD camera - the first review of that type of camera that I've seen. The specs aren't anything special - 640 x 480 resolution - but it's an SD camera! Unfortunately, the camera appears to only be compatible with iPAQ Pocket PCs, which makes me scratch my head in bewilderment - what's the point of SDIO if a product only works on one brand of Pocket PC? <sigh> The review was translated in the link above from French to English, but if your French isn't as rusty as mine, go read the original review.

Ah, so the SDIO prototypes that were hyped up last year are coming! Great! One thing: I read on the discussion comments to the Brighthand Sandisk SDIO WiFi card that the Toshiba models have a different kind of SDIO. Can anyone confirm this? Is it true that only Toshiba SDIO cards will work with my e310?

Is it me or the pictures are really, really bad!
For me is not worth it.

If PDAs were ment to take pictures they would come with a camera.

Yeah, they're pretty nasty - but that's about average for cameras on devices nowadays (the Sony Clie 2 MP cameras are the exception). The Samsung i700 camera looks better than that as well...

As far as I know there's two types of SDIO drivers. There are standard SDIO drivers that each manufacturer creates (sometimes proprietary, go figure :? ). Then you have BSquare's SDIO Now! drivers which allow a manufacturer to just fit these drivers in to their software/hardware design and will work on any device that is also SDIO Now! Compliant.

Default The same problem with CF

I don't understand why people make brand specific add on devices. I had that problem with my casio E200 and Jornada pocket camera. I just tweaked one of the dll's. I could post the method somewhere if someone would want to apply it to the sdio camera and another device.

OT: I wasn't aware of that fix. Could you send me the instructions on how you made it worked? I'm trying to archive all E-200 related information. (send to: pocketpc-at-johncruise-dot-com)

Thanks!

Actually, I don't think the pictures are THAT bad. Outdoor shots are indeed over-exposured, this IS a problem. Still, the pics are much better than the shots of any built-in camera I've ever seen/used (3650/7650/Palm Zire 71).

Manufacturers tend to make add-on peripherals for the most used, most popular or most requested devices. They want to make money so these are some ways it is meausred.

As for Toshiba according to an article I read on PDABuyersGuide.com; their PPCs even though SDIO "due to lack of a software stack for SDIO cards other than Toshiba's Bluetooth SD card". I find that very disturbing for such a nice PPC and Toshiba.

Just another reason to do your homework before purchasing a PDA; and just when you have all the information you can get, go look for more.

Could this same tweak make the Jornada Pocket Camera work with an iPAQ h2215? If so, it would make me very tempted to run out and get a 2215 to play with. Thanks.
