PocketPCTools Reviews the iPAQ 1940
If you're out for another look at the 1940, here's a pretty decent review with some detailed pictures. They haven't gotten the benchmarks up yet, but they plan to update it soon.
"This device gets both of our thumbs up. It is a sleek, sexy device. And except for the cheap battery cover, it is a nice, solid device. A wonderful device for anyone that does not need a CF slot and wants a small device. With 56 MB of built-in memory and 13 MB of non-volatile RAM, there is enough memory for most people. Not having the entire Microsoft Mobile 2003 Suite is a negative as some of the applications many people would use on this device (Windows Media Player) must be installed in memory, rather than in ROM."

I thought WMP might be missing from the ROM. As a consumer based device, this doesn't make sense to me. WMP is really more consumer oriented than enterprise oriented...
However, if anyone was really wanting to try a media player other than WMP, this is a great opportunity for that. I don't use anything else but WMP on my iPAQ 3955 and 5455 because both of them that it installed into ROM.
If I can ever get my hands on an iPAQ 1940, then I play to try out one or two different media players and then purchase a registration code for the best one.
Does anyone have any ideas??
Kind Regards,
Christopher Spera

They're wrong. Windows Media Player is in ROM. The missing apps are Remote Desktop Client, Reader, and Pictures. There might be something else, too, but it's definitely not WMP. The RDC for 2002 on pocketpc.com installs and runs fine and Reader's also available as a separate download.

It's funny. Their article seemed to give the device pretty good marks. But their little bar on the top left gave a rating of just "1.00". Is that an oversite, or is "1.00" a good rating on their site?

Jeff,
you are correct. I originally had Terminal Services and Windows Media in the review. I double checked and removed the wrong item. Thanks! ops:
