Default New Versions of iSilo and iSiloX Available for Download

http://www.isilo.com/index.htm

We normally don't post on "incremental" software updates, but the latest versions (version 3.35) of iSilo and iSiloX offer some pretty neat features. Firstly, iSilo now offers ClearType support. This makes an already-great document viewer even better. I use iSilo on a daily basis to keep up with all the blogs I read; being able to read all these blogs using ClearType makes for an infinitely pleasureable reading experience. (As a downside, I am now completely spoiled by ClearType and can barely stand to read my AvantGo docs on Pocket IE - it looks like an ant farm exploded on my screen.) They've also added an additional option for table layout, allowing you to further customize how your iSilo documents appear on your Pocket PC.

iSiloX is the free document converter for use with iSilo. They've added a number of new features, but two stand out: the ability to schedule web pages for conversion (once, daily, weekly, monthly, or "always"), and a feature that adds an icon to Internet Explorer for Windows that allows you to convert pages on the spot. I haven't yet tried out these new features of iSiloX, but I'm eager to know how they work. Anyone who has experience using the on-the-spot converter or the scheduler feature, please let us know what you think!

Hi Crystal,

It's quite easy to activate ClearType in Pocket IE, and it makes my AvantGo content look great. You just need to mess with a registry editor and change the following key from 0 to 1:
\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ClearTypeText

Then soft reset and try it out!

(I think in some cases you have to create that particular key)

If you get the willies thinking of messing with your registry (as I do), you can enable Clear Type in IE using Pocket Tweak or Reg King.

Just checked out the on-the-spot convertor. Works very nicely 8)

Pity the icon doesn't appear in Avant Browser

Thank you, Rob! I swear I've tried that before, and it never worked. This time it did. I can't understand why apps -- especially those from Microsoft itself -- can't check to see if you have the "Enable ClearType" option turned on in Screen Settings and just use it. So many apps either don't support ClearType at all or have a setting independent from the system-wide setting.

At any rate, thanks for posting that registry key!

Do you have to have a registry editor to do this? I don't have one installed. Can someone recommend a good free or low-cost registry editor?
